“How did we get like this again?”

Emmers laughed as she gripped the edge of the barrel. In retrospect trying to escape via a barrel down the river wasn't the best idea but at least it's something she never did before. That was always exciting when that happens.

He should just enjoy the ride. Not like I'll let anything happen to him.

“This should be fun." She was grinning as they were approaching the waterfall.

Ben sighed. "Yeah, for you. Remember, regular human, can't handle a death trap like this."

She shrugged not the least bit worried. It wouldn't do any good to worry would you couldn't change anything about it.

“Oh, poor baby. Remember, I told you I'd protect you. Here I thought it was the close corners that had you concerned."

Besides, worrying just ruins the fun. How often do you get to say you rode down a waterfall in a barrel?

Ben gulped ignoring her teasing. He covered his eyes as they went off the edge. He passed out as soon as they hit the bottom.

Emmers giggled as he was starting to come to the bank.

“You know, you didn't even hit the water before passing out. That's impressive.”

He groaned as he got up. Other than being a bit sore, he felt better than he would have considering they fell off a waterfall.

“So, how are we still ok?”

Oh, yee of little faith.

She shrugged. "I moved the barrel so most of the impact went towards me. I mean it stung but it was still a fun experience."

He sighed as he finally got himself together. “I still have no idea how you consider that fun.”

“We're still alive and we got to do something new. Of course, that's fun." It's what she lived for. It was still hard for Ben to understand.

He's starting to get it. Not quite there yet.

Ben looked over to a clearing before checking the time. It was starting to get dark and despite how they got out of that situation, they were still soaking wet.

“Best we set up camp for the night.”

She grinned. "Whatever you say, Ben."

Normally this would be the part where she would tease him about drying off or something else entirely. As much as she had fun with that waterfall she could give the man a break just this once.

“Look, its nice view at least."

Ben sighed. Emmers said she knew the way but a lot of detours just tend to happen along the way. Though she did say it was the scenic route.

If I told anyone I was enjoying spending time with an infected individual, I doubt they would believe me.

“Ok, I'll admit it. The view is amazing.” Most of the time humans were focused on survival but he could see what she was getting at. It's still a good world.

She grinned. "Now you see why I like going around. There is still plenty of the world left, no idea why anyone would think it's over."

Maybe to the fact most were trying to eat us.

“Yeah, I guess you getting lost has its perks." He meant it as a joke. He had to admit she was cute when she gets frustrated at him like this.

Her cheeks puffed up in frustration. "Hey, I'm not lost. I just can't go the same routes with you. I doubt you would last for very long in the infected forest. It is the fastest  way."

Ok, good point.

Emmers took a minute to enjoy this mountain the mountain view before about to turn. "Well, if we travel down this section we..."

She was about to turn around when the shot rang out. Ben's eyes widened as he saw the blood blossom on her abdomen.

She looked down almost stunned. “Oh...shit.” Her knees buckled as she fell forward. He rushed over and caught her before she hit the ground.

Ok, she just passed out. I've seen her get ran through before and make it out fine...because she had something to eat. There is nothing to eat here and she wouldn't forgive herself if she ate me.

He quickly turned to the person walking up. He assumed it was the shooter with how much his gun was smoking.

“Thank goodness pal, looks like I saved ya.” It was an older man but he looked dressed for travel. Ben couldn't help but notice the look he had. It was almost deranged.

The shooter grinned. "Didn't want to watch a fellow human get eaten now."

Fellow human my ass. You didn't even give any warning.

The man frowned as he saw how Ben held her. Though buddy, hate to break it to you your girlfriend is a freak. Best leave her before she eats you. Come on you can stay at my camp."

Of course, this was how most people react. I kinda get what Emmers was saying about fear now. Though, she'll die if I leave.

“Yeah, I doubt Ben here goes with people who just shoot first and ask questions later. Especially those who smell like blood, you filthy raider."

He looked down as Emmers was awake now. Her gaze now charged directly at her attacker. She was still in a lot of pain but she remained focused.

The man pointed his gun right at Ben's head. "That's too bad, still can always just make it look like the girl just ripped you to pieces. Pays better that way."

Ben glared and barley requested that Emmers had quietly taken his gun. The man was so focused on Ben he didn't even notice the other was armed or that the parasite he shot has it.

“Yeah, and here is your reward.” She shot the man twice and he went down quickly.

He turned to her and laughed almost in shock. "Well..nice shot."

“I was aiming for his head." She grimaced as she handed the gun back to him. He was quickly brought back to attention to where her wound was.

Looks like the bullet is still in there. Yet I have no idea how that reacts with her unique state.

She sighed as she saw him slightly panicking. “It's quicker if I take it out. It'll hurt but that's not new.”

Wait, how high is her pain tolerance?

He couldn't help but wince as she formed her claws and plucked the bullet out of herself. Her hand was slick with her blood that was now free-flowing.

She chuckled. "Yeah, It's not the first time I had to do something like this. Still, don't like getting shot."

Yeah, who does? Still, I have no idea what we are gonna use to wrap that.

His eyes gazed over to the figure Emmers shot. He was still moving a little bit, but he wouldn't be alive for much longer.

Her gaze lowered as she got up. "Yeah, the only option for me is right there. Still, it's a better outcome. At least you weren't hurt."

He glared. “Yeah, it doesn't mean you have to get hurt.”

“Just look away please.” She knew never felt comfortable eating in front of him, especially if it was human.

You only eat people if you have no choice. I understand that.

He looked away if only just to make her feel better.

She only ate the arm despite the benefit of eating more. She set up a camp away from the corpse and went back to just commenting on what was around them.

Still, he couldn't help but look at the blood that was still on her shirt.

I know it's fine, but she should still rest.

As he thought, Emmers was out like a light when they had the chance. He smiled as he brushed her hair out of her face. It was the first time he has seen her sleep.

It’s an impressive collection of star power and up-and-coming talent that will spread out nicely over the weekend. And with more names still to come, this thing keeps getting better and better. 

We’ve had the chance to see most of these performers live in the past, and we can tell you that all of them put on a show that’s entertaining, packed with sing-along moments, and memorable. Country music fans who haven’t had the opportunity to see them yet should be very, very excited to check them off of their list this summer in PEI.
