Shoutout to Belm, my favorite scimitar in the game. I'm not really hung up on too many BG3 weapons—I've never been the biggest "my sword is like totally awesome" guy in general—but there's a reason this is the final blade for several of my characters (Cannor, Olini, Wade) and/or a few of my other characters' romances (Rikka, Lakrissa). I'm probably forgetting several others.
But yeah, once I hit the Lower City I always make a beeline for Jaheria's basement to get this thing, and I don't care if "ranger with scimitar" is a TTRPG cliché. Even if I did think such a silly thing I couldn't even even, like, blame Drizzt for it, because despite apparently being demographically made for them, I've never read any of RA Salvatore's books and I don't much care about his best boy (though if you do, you do you).
Because I don't care about big fuckoff two-handed weapons, be they maul, axe, glaive, greatsword, or whatever. I yawn at them. They have no subtlety. Furthermore as a bard/rogue/ranger fan I like finesse weapons, and most longswords won't give me that (though the ones that do I love and I give them to women I love). I like curves and most longswords won't give me that either.
I don't say all this to be a snob; if damage and domination is your thing in combat, again, you do you, but I ain't doing that. A short, curved, +2 blade that allows a bonus action attack will do me just fine, thanks. And if I can't have a whip, then this isn't a terrible consolation.
