Name: Belcha
Debut: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!
Hey, remember Dumb Drum? MAN, that drum was dumb. The dumbest drum in all the land. You know who’s not dumb, though? Belcha! Belcha is great! It’s the first boss and perhaps the easiest one in the series, but it’s okay to be easy when you’re, you know, great.
Aw, don’t cry, Dumb Drum... just kidding! Please continue! I relish in it! In fact, I’m going to list all the ways in which Belcha is superior to Dumb Drum.
1. You actually FIGHT Belcha! Dumb Drum’s “battle” in the original game just consisted of surviving long enough until it died. Belcha, however, is fought by throwing beetles into its mouth!
2. Belcha has personality! Dumb Drum’s “face” is just a painted-on skull. But look at Belcha! Big, bloodshot eyes in angry-shaped openings, with a huge mouth full of blocky, independently moving teeth. Are you wondering why it’s called Belcha? When you throw a beetle into its mouth, it burps! What the heck!
3. Belcha has a unique boss fight! This is not a boss where you just bop it three times while avoiding attacks. This is a boss you fight by throwing beetles into its mouth! I’m going to keep bringing that up, because it’s great! With each beetle, Belcha burps, and each burp sends it back further, until it falls in a hole. It doesn’t die or anything. Just falls into a hole. You win because it’s a barrel and can’t get out of the hole.
4. Belcha is a barrel! If there’s anything that should be the basis for an inanimate object boss in a Donkey Kong game, it should be a barrel. Sure, oil drums appeared in the original Donkey Kong too, but not nearly as prominently, and it’s Fire that was the real star there. Barrels, though? Those Kongs have been throwing them around for so long... isn’t it about time they got their revenge? Or maybe they already did! Maybe that’s why the Kongs are always found in barrels throughout levels! Belcha is the real mastermind! Also, you throw beetles into Belcha’s mouth.
Cranky says Belcha would make good firewood. I guess because it comes with its own flammable gas!
Daily thing #2015 (Subject)
Donkey Kong Country 2 is my all-time favorite game. Belcha, from Donkey Kong Country 3, is one of my favorite bosses from the series. I simply wanted to re-create Belcha to fit modern-day graphics capabilities.
Planning on sleeping well tonight? How about looking at this extremely detailed 3D render of Belcha, the first boss from #DKC3, instead?

Overthinking The Lore: Episode 1
I'm going to post some of my old YouTube videos to this blog for Tumblr to enjoy. I still really like them, and I'm hoping to get back to making videos soon.
This video explores the theory that Belcha the Barrel from Donkey Kong Country 3 is actually a cybernetically modified version of a boss enemy from one of the previous Donkey Kong games.
