Missy.
Feels good to be writing and publishing another blog this week, especially one that involves some personal work. All year I have focused on shooting and collaborating for only magazine submissions. Its been about 3 years since Missy and I last shot together and when the opportunity came for us to work again, I had to take it. We didn’t have anything too specific in mind as far as the theme went.…

I haven’t had too much time this year to do collaborative work. I slowed down a lot on constantly working to focus on my family and I kind of just got burned out too. I felt like my photography was going a little stale, which is one of the reasons why I stepped back from photos and took more of an interest in video. I think this was a great decision because it allowed me to re-evaluate my photographic work and forced to me to realize the type of work I really wanted to create. So I found myself saying no to a lot of things this year, if it wasn’t paid then I simply could not do it. Although paid client work is great… too much of it was killing my creativity. I simply was not doing the kind of work I REALLY wanted to be getting paid for. So when the few free days throughout the year that was available for collaborative work, I took advantage.
This whole year I wanted to try and set up a group shoot. It was mostly just an excuse to get out of the house, hang with some fellow artists, and create some images together. The only thing is, I really didn’t have the time to set up an elaborate group shoot. Late November I put out a casting call for models who wanted to shoot. I received a lot of responses from various models that it was too hard to say no to all of them, so I figured it would be the perfect time to finally do the group shoot.
After all the correspondence with various models and photographers, the group ended up consisting of Models: Brooke Howard, Erica Stroup, and Lauren Nebitt; Photographers: German Cervera, Matthew Stroup, and myself. I was excited to work with Erica and Lauren again, I always get great images when I work with those two ladies. This was my first time working with Brooke though, and I was really nervous! I rarely get nervous with model work, but she is an established model/actress that has done lots of work with great photographers, plus she has been on one of my favorite TV shows (How I Met Your Mother). So the pressure was on to create some good images LOL!
To summarize, it was a great day of shooting! We all kind of split up, so unfortunately I didn’t get to shoot much with Erica & Lauren, but I’m really happy with what I got.
