My infamous solarpunk shorts have always had a defect: The belt loops were too small for my belt.

Yesterday I unpicked all five belt loops and cut out seven new ones. I then realized the fabric wasn't very stable, even on the straight grain, so I backed them with my landlady's fusible interfacing. Then I used my machine's diamond stitch to cover the raw edge.

And here's the final product! Cheers to a more wearable, usable garment.

wow it's awkward pushing all this fabric under the arm of the machine, if only I had sewn this with all the bulk free in the huge empty space to the left instead

Soo this was like basically my first time sewing anything ever, so you'll have to be kind lol. I was really learning along the way, huge shoutout to my grandma for helping me. As such ik it's not perfect but I'm pretty happy with how it came out anyways:)

As mentioned: not perfect, not by a long shot... But a pretty big step up from the glued seams and safety pins of my last home-made cosplay, now many years ago!

I learned a lot, and I'm kinda hoping I'll do a better job on the trim next time (attach it to the lining first, for one) but the fact that this was successful enough for me to even think of a next time is kind of miraculous.

Anyway.
