I want to express a true and intense sense of gratitude for this meal. One of the greatest if not the greatest meal I’ve ever had the pleasure of consuming. @franciebrooklyn is truly, completely, and absolutely fantastic. This should be the measuring stick for all dinning. Excellence, simply excellence. I could write pages of the little details that made each and every dish so spectacular. Instead I’ll just leave this unfiltered picture of the duck. Just know if you cross my path this week I will talk to you for hours about this meal. When I told someone I was going out to dinner with high expectations they said ‘you shouldn’t do that, you’ll be disappointed’ INCORRECT! Don’t let them get to you. When people look at you, all they see is their own mediocrity. They can’t see past their insecurities. They look at your accomplishments, and all they see is their mediocrity. They never got around to learning that second language, or taking that carpentry class, or fixing up that car. They see their failures. And they take it out on you. They see your black belt, your mastery of the guitar, your degree, your subject-matter expert credentials and they call you arrogant. For having the audacity to be proud of your hard-won accomplishments. They don’t see the work you put into it, the hours a day you devoted to mastery. They don’t see the 10,000 failures it took you to get to where you are. The knockouts. The broken bones. The set backs. The break throughs. They look at their own life and despair; then their despair turns to anger as they take your pride and subvert it; they call it arrogance. They wouldn’t dare be inspired by you. They are not your peers. They are not your peers because they have never mastered anything. They’re deeply upset. No one asks their opinion. Because no one cares what the layman thinks.
