Ste arranged a visit to the Beers Gallery to see an artist who hes been raving about, not all of us went and when we got there we had to wait a fair bit for the other half of the group to arrive (apparently one of the 1st years got lost on the tube and was upset, poor girl) anyway once we went in we were taken into another world, a world of fantastic art.
The exhibition was called Snake and comprised of a green artificial turf carpet. and truly amazing paintings a young Canadian artist which had been assembled in response to the Orlando night club shooting. Andrew is gay and the nightclub attacked was a LGBT club so the art was personnel, and consisted of portraits of some of the victims.
While we were there, Stella knocked on the office door to see if we could speak to a representative of the artists and low and behold he came out and talked to us all for 15-20 mins. Really nice lad, totally down to earth, we had an intimate chat with a very successful artist who sells works for 5-6 figures. Ste was over the moon and couldn’t/ can’t stop talking about it.
The work was painting/combine style using materials, butterfly as well as other mediums blened into this work, very life like portraits in the classical style, but using entirely modern colours, many of which were bright happy life affirming.
