Happy #3FPFactsFriday! Today is brought to you by 🐝! Today I’m here to talk about a beautiful cemetery in the #HauntedHudsonValley located in Troy, NY. Oakwood Cemetery was established in 1848 and was the 4th rural cemetery to be established in New York. It was designed by architect John C. Sidney who is most known for his work done alongside fellow architect John Jay Smith at locations like Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. What makes Oakwood Cemetery so notable to warrant it a Fact Friday? Not only is it haunted, it is HUGE. This cemetery features 26 miles of roads, 60,000+ graves, 4 artificial lakes, a chapel, and a crematorium! It also boasts scenic views of the Hudson River. In 1984 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. As for hauntings, all older cemeteries have reports of their ookie spookies. However Oakwood Cemetery has enough that its association occasionally offers ghost tours along with their other historical events offered seasonally. Some of the reports of hauntings from Oakwood Cemetery include children’s spirits laughing and playing between the tombs, mysterious shadows, and, of course, disembodied voices! Certainly enough strange occurrences to warrant a visit to this stunning cemetery if you’re in the area.
