I’m inclined to say so, as it detaches the image from the text, which is where tumblr falls down in terms of accessibility (lets be honest, the whole site falls down) cause other social media platforms are starting to let us embed our descriptions in the images, which helps avoid this sort of thing.

Personally, as someone who always has people bitching at them about making long posts, I don’t particularly care if I catch flack for making a post more accessible and inclusive. But then I’ve already dug my grave and refuse to lie in it so that’s just me.

And honestly, I find image heavy posts without captions to be annoying as all hell cause I can’t read them for shit (I have visual processing issues as well as audio) and every time someone sends me something that’s just a screed of screen-capped twitter threads, part of me dies inside cause please, just send me the link so I can use my Reader extension to make it easier.

Which speaking of, hello friends, if you struggle with reading on screens, BeeLine Reader may be of some help to you. It uses a cognitive technique to make the text more readable via adjusting the gradient of the font. There are different options to choose from so you can customize it to your preferences. I started out with a free trial of it over a year ago, and wound up buying it for all my devices cause it was fucking magical. It takes so much strain out of reading for me it’s unreal. Wish I’d had it as a kid. And because people always react cynically when I rec a thing, no, not a sponsored link, this is just me telling you about an accessibility tool which may help someone.

Which I’m bringing up because basically....people are always going to be annoyed at something you do. It’s the internet, it’s unavoidable. If you are concerned? tag it “long post” and people who don’t want to deal with that can blacklist it to avoid having to scroll.That way you are being considerate of them, and more inclusive without putting a further barrier in between the thing that’s supposed to help make the post more accessible to those who need it.

It could have something to do with ADHD. It could also be related to a reading disorder. I’m not quite sure how to best deal with it, but I know there’s an app called BeeLine Reader that colours text in gradients and helps guide your eyes through text. I tried it out and thought it was helpful (I also tend to skip around a lot when reading). It’s available for most systems and programs (but naturally, it doesn’t work on books or paper). 

Followers, do any of you experience this? How do you deal with it?

I use this on my laptop bc I have adhd and my brain go brrrrr too fast to focus on large pieces of text. The extension makes it easier to read/focus by fading colours in and out on different lines. Example below from their website:

I have found it extremely helpful for me bc I LOVE to read but as I've become an adult I find it so hard to focus when reading.

They have a free option, I think it gives you 2 or 3 uses/day, but they have relatively affordable options for paid use. I have the 2$/month subscription option (although I pay annually bc I like that better) and it allows you unlimited use on one browser (aka so long as you only use one type of browser on your device you get unlimited use on that device).

They also have student pricing which is even cheaper than the base subscription. AND they allow you to enable Beeline on a website you're building using javascript.

I've found it to be the single most helpful thing when trying to do schoolwork, like if I have to read research papers or whev.
