Get What were about
Beddow n Battini in my words.
Were a collective. Made up from individuals from many different disciplines, Primarily different types of visual artists and Writers. A lot of our collective work has been based around city living and the kind of imagination that is inspired by our city living. The highs or lows of it.
How we came together:
It originally started with 2 guys in a room Trying their hardest to write comics. One was an artist and one was a writer. The writer[Adeeb Waren] had this idea for a story that he wanted to tell in comic form, but didnt believe he had good enough drawing skills to carry it out. His Friend at the time[Wumi Olaosebikan] was an artists who loved to draw but found it difficult to write stories. The two Together started the first Beddow n Battini Project where they Attempted to Make a Graphic novel!
Graphic Novels were pretty long! and actually need alot of patience. On one of the days where they got together they took a break to do some exercises were they created characters on the spot form words and phrases and turning them into visual pieces and mini stories. This Exercise then became the bases of the first two bnb exhibitions. We invited more creative people that we knew to join in and eventually the Collective grew quite solid. and they would always lead to us meeting more interesting creatives through networking and so forth.
What wer stand for:Β
Accessibility
Art for everyone no matter what class background or gender! we're a mixed bunch from all over the world who have spent a considerable amount of our lives in london. and i think that comes across greatly in the work that we produce individually, its always nice when you see it all come together at our shows and notice how different people resonate with different pieces, mostly based on who they are.
Aspire to inspire.
We started off making work together with the attitude that if we can do something, and we've seen others so things, why don't we! Spending a lot of time in different creative scenes over the years the initial members were often inspired by how companies/creatives would make something from what seemed like nothing. And that notion was a big inspiration for us, that we would want to pass on! We were inspired and now wish to inspire.
Our Aims
Story telling and Collaboration
Its Great storytelling is fundamentally what we try to achieve. Thats probably why were not just an art collective, and why we focus a lot of attention to our writers. Writers have always been a back-bone on what we produce, some of the artists double up as writers as well. Bringing the artists and writers together for projects is also our way of developing each's styles and story telling ability, Particularly the writters.Β
Writing being the Backbone
Its all a bit of an experiments with the writers, because were always trying to come up with new ways of displaying the importance of a strong writer in narrative. The idea of people visiting a show to see literature interests us and we like to see how it can balance out with the Visual arts, which you would usually go to a show to see.Β
Whats Next
We know that animation and interaction are a big part of our storytelling and accessibility motives, and are already working on these for future projects.Β
