Diary of a crazy OCD student
Well I really tried not to let my OCD bug me. But in reality if I am not obsessive over something I get very lazy. I tried not to organize as much over the summer and I ended up with B's in both my classes. I am already starting to fall into the pattern of "B student" behavior this semester so tonight I spent 37 minutes writing out my schedule for the next 8 weeks. I sometimes do more, sometimes less. I taped it next to my desk on the wall just like I have done the past year or so since I started going back to school. This really gives me a sense of control, and I feel much calmer looking at the bigger picture than trying to figure out what I have to do tonight. I can look and see what is coming up and what I should focus on more. I do this so I don't forget anything and at the last minute think, "Oh Shit!" I have a doctors appointment or what not. This type of organization isn't for everyone, but if you feel you are struggling try it. Not being organized is what made me such a horrible student in high school.
Part of overcoming my OCD was supposed to be letting go of rituals I have, but I think this ritual is part of why I am such a good student now (compared to 5 years ago). I do get times when I literally do nothing but sleep but hey I'm only bipolar over here! I come and go in waves of productiveness and desperation. Let's hope a big wave of productiveness will wash over me soon!
