While not directly pirate related, I got the chance last week to check out some really cool ships!
Photos 1 & 2: The Moshulu. A 4-masted Barque ship made in 1904 with steel, and one of the largest last remaining original large sail ships. Today she is permanently docked and serves as a restaurant. (Which I did not get to eat at, sadly.)
Photo 3: Two ships in one. The ship to the left is the Olympia, and is the oldest steel warship still afloat, and one of only two left from World War 1. To the right is the submarine Becuna, this 1944 sub served in both World War II and the Cold War.
Photo 4: Across the river sits the USS New Jersey. She is an Iowa-class battleship and served in many wars, including World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War sand Lebanese Civil War.
Photo 5: I could only get a photo through the car window from across a highway. This proud but also sad looking girl is the SS United States. She was built in 1951 and set several speed records for crossing the Atlantic. Sadly she sits rusting and rotting while awaiting funding for a restoration that may never come.
