i thought the contest was shown to be ridiculous though? That's why when Peri won they didnt listen to her. it didn't matter who won, Pearl was still going to have the authority because she's Pearl. It showed that Pearl didn't have anything to prove because she'd be in charge no matter what. But Pearl, herself, wanted to prove it. They just supported her because she felt like this was something she needed to do. And they stood by her even when she didn't win.

Yes, they stood by her. Except the result was not framed as the contest being ridiculous. It was framed as "Pearl was hardcore!" and "It was still really cool anyway!" and "She's not a COMMON Pearl" speech from Steven and "Okay for a Pearl that was still impressive"

It was framed as if Pearl DID need to be special to ~deserve respect - she just was SPECIAL ENOUGH already.

Which is a bullshit lesson to teach to little kids.
