At the end there, Gavin Pring and his band (George Harry’s Son) starts to play Something. If you know (or know of) Gavin, he is a professional ‘George’ in the Fab Four tribute band in the US and would normally perform dressed up as George. Me and my other half had a drink with him after this show and he told us he’d decided not to dress as George for this performance as he would be singing Something to the real Pattie Boyd and that would be just too… weird!

Photos from the back room of The White Star, just off Mathew Street in Liverpool. This is room is also where the Beatles are supposed to have signed their contract for Hamburg with Allan Williams (so the legend goes). There are brass plaques denoting ‘John, Paul, George, Ringo’ to celebrate this (spot the deliberate mistake there!) and also the first page of the contract framed on the wall with a photo of John below it.

Murals here were painted by Stuart Sutcliffe and Rod Murray (not John as is sometime reported - when the Jac was reopened once years ago it was said the paintings were by Stu and John, but this was false and designed to attract more attention to the bar). There is a small rectangle covered by perspex down the stairs into the basement bar, which I believe is what is left of the original mural. The other paintings are ‘restoration’. The Jacaranda doesn’t bear much resemblance to the Jac that the Beatles played at, but it’s still a good bar and worth a visit if you’re in Liverpool.
