I hope this isn't creepy but I followed you here from irresistible-revolution's Jasmine post. Beauty and the Beast has ALWAYS been my favourite Disney movie and Belle my favourite princess b/c she was a bookworm who wanted *more* than the expectations of her family/community. But as an adult I def identify more w/ the Beast, particularly as a femme qwoc. So, yeah, I maybe get where you're coming from. Esp considering Alan Menken was queer himself and his music reflected that struggle.
Oh my god I feel the same way about all of this, esp the part with belle and wanting more. It is SO NICE not to be alone. I didn’t know Alan Menken was queer though, and this is amazing/makes a lot of sense.I was belle for hallowe’en when I was like, 5. My mom made me the yellow ballgown costume. I just remembered that. It was amazing, she even made me gloves.
Back to the Beast though, there’s something about finding the humanity in the monstrosity, that I really appreciate. Everyone hates the beast cause he is a”beast” and they just say he is ugly and unlovable and unhuman and the brown queer part of me really FELT that struggle, even when I was a really small kid. but it persists even more today post puberty and into adulthood. I have literally felt and been made to feel beastly for years and it is only just now that I am finding the strength to come into my own beauty and also rock my fur for what it is (brown queerness).So yeah I don’t know, I’m a little zooted and I really love the Beast. Thanks for messaging me; it wasn’t creepy at all! Again it’s really nice to know I’m not alone in all this.<3
