Which genuinely breaks my heart a little because music was so so important to Tolkien. I mean, the guy wrote literally dozens of songs in his works and even describes middle earth as being sung into creation. And the people who made the movies got that.

Howard Shore wrote three of the most beautiful, complex, and well crafted scores in movie history because he was writing them to fit the story and with a deep respect for how important the music would be. Every piece is full of motifs and themes and moods that he weaved not only through one movie but through them all, for places and characters and ideas. The scores are just suffused with the same love of music and storytelling that you find all throughout Tolkien's works. Even the Hobbit movies, while nowhere near as good overall, have pretty incredible scores.

And you can say it's because it's the trailer, that of course they're not breaking out the full weight of the score for just the trailer, but go back and watch the LotR trailers. Sure, the music is altered to fit an early 2000s vibe, but you can clearly hear the themes that are in the movie woven in. And, they picked music that fit what they were showing- when talking about the ring and the ring wraiths, the music is horror movie levels of creepy. When talking about Mordor and Sauron, the music is heavy and filled with dread. Even in the short time of a trailer, you can pick up on what's going on and what certain visuals are going to be associated with in the movie. The rings of power trailer music is just saying "something Epic(tm) is happening" without telling you anything more about it.

I don't know. Maybe it's just a bad trailer. Maybe, like I said, some of the music is going to fit into themes and motifs that will be in the show. But right now, it all just sounds pathetically average. And even though I know Howard Shore is composing for it, I'm not holding out a lot of hope that they're actually gonna let him go wild with the music. I suspect that in an effort to keep it """accessible to audiences""" they're gonna limit what he's allowed to do and limit the music as a whole, just like they have seemed to change many of the characters and designs to make them ""cooler"" or whatever.

Like, I’m sitting there, just vibing, in the middle of absolute chaos. Everyone is running around, panicking. But I’m that mysterious character who knows way more than they should, who has seen the same thing happen countless times before. I know how this works and I’m the only one in this place who does. I don’t say anything until someone pulls me aside and asks how the hell I’m so calm in this situation. And so I tell them.
