I think it's cute seeing Hinako openly complain about Kotoyuki leaving her behind and wanting him to wait for her....
Like esp in contrast to the rest of the game, Hinako being annoyed in such a mundane way is a nice little breather. At this point, the anxieties of the wedding doesn't exist just yet. You could read it like they're a couple on a date, where Kotoyuki is walking too far ahead so Hinako pouts about it...
Also... Hinako really Really wants Kotoyuki to wait for her, even from the beginning huh ๐ฅน

So I'm not sure if this is a bug, or a gameplay prompt that doesn't activate on easier difficulties, but....
There's extra dialogue for Fox Hinako that appears in the "Ebisugaoka in Silence" boss fight that I just Never saw during my playthrus.
This is so important for understanding Hinako's feeling about Kotoyuki!! Like look at these lines:
Not only does she want to reciprocate his feelings, she talks about a side of Kotoyuki that isn't mentioned anywhere else in the game: He struggled with having to give up his life for his first love, the exact same situation Hinako herself is in.
Hinako and Kotoyuki are birds of a feather.... Completely and utterly.
There's something rly intriguing about Hinako typically doing/saying the opposite of whatever Kotoyuki asks. like if Fox Hinako is supposed to be the one who lets Kotoyuki decide things for her, it's surprising how little she actually goes along with his assessments.
When Kotoyuki sympathizes with Hinako saying goodbye to her friends, at first she agrees with him, but she then switches to saying "No, it had to be done".
Kotoyuki warns her that the rituals are going to be painful and full of suffering but Hinako says she's not afraid.
Kotoyuki is the one urging her to rest more, Hinako is the one who wants to keep going:
Even in the "Fox Wedding" ending, when Kotoyuki says he will go after Shu, Hinako stops him and says she will pursue Shu instead. He doesn't try to stop her either.
One of my favorite little things about Hinako and Kotoyuki is how Kotoyuki is always very accomodating to her and encourages Hinako to take her time and rest more. Not once during the whole process does he try to rush her or tell her to hurry up.. you would assume since he's waited his whole life for this moment he'd be pushing her more, but he doesn't. Instead, he always asks for her approval and if she wants to keep going, and then never questions her response.
This leads me back to how Fox Hinako initially said she would become a "perfect person" for Kotoyuki, but did he ever ask her to do that? Did he really want her to become "perfect" for him?
Similarly, Kotoyuki's goal was to become the "perfect match" for Hinako, but did she ever tell him to be that?
Both of them were taking the path that society told them was the "correct" one, but neither of them said that's what they wanted. They were operating under perceptions that neither one ever required them to be.
thinking about Kotoyuki's age, it makes the most thematic sense for him and Hinako to be very close in age since it adds to the parallels of their stories, rather than him being a few years older. They're like two sides of the same coin, both being "birds" who yearn to be free but are trapped in the confines of patriarchal traditions.
Plus, the radio message and kera's SHif art confirm that Kotoyuki would've gone to school with them, so he has to be either the same age or have a 1-2 year difference.
.... which makes the fact they have a Crazy Height Difference in concept art even funnier. Hinako is supposed to be taller than the average girl as well. Kotoyuki just has "the fox gene that makes you freakishly tall" ig.

honestly im both excited and scared about the shf manga adaptation ๐ญthe novel rly missed the mark on the characters so I'm rly rly hoping the manga will be better, esp with a new ending by ryukishi himself. I just really hated how they made every chracter lack depth.
I do usually love the manga adaptations of ryukishis works (higurashi and umineko were masterpieces. also very much preferred higu meguri over higu sotsu for example) so I'm hoping its good... I think a manga serialization is a lot easier to make spinoffs that focus on diff chracters too if they ever want to
