June is inspired by my findings on the beach. We spend a lot of time in North Myrtle Beach and the beach is one of my favorite places to be. Shells are so interesting and beautiful. Their colors, patterns, textures, and shapes are incredible. I also really, really love to hunt for shark teeth/fossils. They are just so cool! In total, I've found 8 so far. I love picturing what the shark might have looked like, how old is the fossil, and when I find the next one?! The tiny fish are always swimming with the tide and when they brush up on you it feels terrifying, but they're so tiny and silly. Sandpiper birds are extremely entertaining to watch. How they sprint up and down with the tide in a frantic search is entertaining. I feel like I look like a Sandpiper when I'm searching for my shark fossils! Sometimes it’s the smallest thing in life that bring us the most joy. What does it for you? For me it’s picking up shells and beach glass on the beach. I remember one of my most heartwarming memories of time with family growing. We would go down to the ocean to go camping and I would walk the beach looking for agates. I loved those times. We would see sea otters hold hands and swim around the ocean. We would sit on a hill watching the sunrise and sunset. We would do rubbings from our Native American petroglyphs (no one can do that last one anymore because a photographer thought the petroglyphs looked better with florescent chalk in the lines. I was just a girl but I remember him and told him he shouldn’t put the chalk there. He smiles at me and did it anyway. Shortly after those petroglyphs were off limits.). It was a charmed upbringing. So, I smile when I go walking on the beach and see a beautiful shell or a piece of glass to add to my collection. It brings me back to simpler days.
