I’ve just accepted that paywalling mods is a Simming community issue and we’ll never escape some of it. It’s so grossly ingrained since TS2 from the most annoying creators.
The only other modding community I’m actively involved in is Stardew Valley. All creators provide everything for free, save for like 1-2 people that I can think of who have Patreons but still have a majority free. Another indie game mind you but since it doesn’t walk and talk like the Sims it just escapes the culture.

If someone expresses themselves on bound paper in any form it’s a journal. If they memory keep and write a short blurb in a book it’s a journal. If they use stickers to embellish words on a page it’s a journal. If they sketch and write all at once it’s a journal. If they collage with junk or found objects it’s a journal.
The absence of content just makes it an empty book. Any content in said book is a journal if you want it to be. Don’t let people gatekeep a hobby your grandparents did in the same way. Tale as old as time.
