E&N-mun does things: M.V. Queen of Nanaimo Decommissioning Ceremony
Said goodbye to a beautiful lady of the Salish Sea today: the Queen of Nanaimo, the last Burnaby Class vessel in the BC Ferries fleet. I met a number of former crew members, witnessed a wonderful send-off ceremony, and toured around the decks and wheelhouse of the classy old girl for one final time. It was a wonderful experience, and I was happy to be able to play a part in saying goodbye.
As I've only visited the Southern Gulf Islands (the Nanaimo's route) once, I only rode on her for one round trip - but I still have a lot of respect and reverence for this ship. She's being repainted, and will receive a new name - Lomaivati Princess V - for her new, second life in the open waters of Fiji.
I, along with the many mariners and passengers who have kept her afloat for her almost six decades of service, wish her calm seas and smooth voyages across the Pacific, and eventually into the great beyond.
Farewell, Queen of Nanaimo. Sail safely.

“When Lighters Were Cool” - Homestead Museum, Drumheller, AB
Author's favourite is the lighter in the shape of a ferry; the Queen of Esquimalt. Here’s some background on the ferry: “The V-class ferries, also known as Victoria class, originally included seven BC Ferries built between 1962 and 1963. These vessels were the backbone of service on the Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay route prior to the arrival of MV Spirit of British Columbia in 1993. Some of these vessels underwent vehicle capacity increases three times. Four vessels were slated to be retired and sold in 2008.[1] The transfer of Queen of Esquimalt was halted and she was broken up in Ensenada, Mexico. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-class_ferry
