Are there plans on doing this event again? I missed this event the first time around and would love if this was done again at some point.
Hi! I would love to run this event again, but I am unfortunately insanely busy for the foreseeable future, so any future running of this event wouldn't be until mid next year at the absolute earliest sadly.
I fully encourage everyone to keep writing fics in their own language, even without this event running!

You would be correct, for this iteration of the event only MCYT series will be allowed. AUs, on the other hand, are very allowed and even encouraged >:D
Hey there! You said romantic relationship should not be the focus of the fic. I was wondering if stories that are subverting some romantic tropes, like fake dating, but there is no romantic couple ending, if that's okay?
Another question, if the motivations of some side character is romantic based, but since it's a side character, that motivation isn't that explicit, and as I said, there is no romantic couple ending, would that still be considered shipping or romance focus?
we'd prefer for this event if you did not write fics subverting romantic tropes. a side character or plot having a romance off to the side/offscreen should be ok, though, as long as it does not become the focus of the fic!

so sorry if you have answered this question before but are new writters welcome to participate in this event? i have never properly written a fic (just small things for my ocs) but i do have a fic idea and i would love to participate

In French, there's many different dialects, especially French Canadian. If we write our fic in French, will we need to stick to French from France? Or can we write in French Canadian? (The one from Québec tho)

I'm kind of baffled at the concept of assigning beta readers to fics in languages they don't speak? Like yes, machine translation exists, but it's often imperfect and I know from experience that it's not capable of translating my fics into comprehensible English. Which makes betaing without speaking the language impossible, especially since betaing can often involve helping out with writing style and such.

Yeah no worries, I totally understand the confusion!
Essentially, when writer sign ups go out, we will be asking writers if they only want a beta that can understand the language they will be writing in, if they are ok with their betas not being able to understand the language they will be writing in, or if they would prefer not having a beta on their team if one that understands their language is not available.
If they choose the second option, those betas would only helping out with the content of the fic (stuff like character voice, worldbuilding, basically specific sentences or paragraphs that the writer might want more help with instead of reading through the entire fic with a translator) and not any grammar, spelling, sentences structure, or anything that would explicitly require fluency in the language.
The reason for this rule is because, in the initial interest survey, there was interest in writing fics in 27 unique languages, throughout 44 responses. We’re anticipating a similar number of unique languages when sign ups open, along with a decent number of people who don’t speak a second language but still want to participate!
So basically, yes, it will be complicated, but we will not assign one of those betas to a writer who needs someone who can read their fic without a translator.
