what’s longtail and swiftpaws relationship like? And how does longtail react after his death? (I always imagined him truly breaking down his ideologies after the events of DP)
also I just always thought Tigerstar always wanted forest domination, he just chose a different clan to become leader of after Thunderclan didn’t work out
Redtail is Longtail's dad in BB, and the brother of Sandstorm. It SHATTERED his world to find out that Tigerclaw, his friend, the mentor-of-his-mentor, took him away. He questioned everything he ever knew. He was unraveling everything from that moment.
And it was too late.
Swiftpaw was well into his training. He'd taught him everything he knew, everything about strength, serving your Clan, that to die for a cause was the true purpose of a warrior. To give up your life is what having one is for. It was past the point of no return.
He died the way he was taught. Longtail escaped, looked over his shoulder, and watched his apprentice torn to shreds before he could save him too. He buried a half-eaten corpse.
It changed him. Longtail couldn't do anything else for his apprentice besides promise he would never let this happen, ever again. From that point on, he was a lot more considerate of what he told others, as if he'd aged years in a day.
While training Jaypaw, there's times where he sees a bit of Swiftpaw in him. Headstrong, committed, with a sharp tongue and a lot of anger bottled up inside him. It stings. He misses him all the time... both of his apprentices. He's a really good mentor, struck by tragedy twice.
And Longtail promises them, both Swiftpaw and Sootfur, that he will teach this apprentice everything he needs to know.
