Jabal Thawr (Cave of Thawr) At the time when persecution of the believers escalated, the Prophet ﷺ travelled with his close companion Abu Bakr As-Siddiq radiAllahu anhu at night. On their way to Madinah, they stopped to hide in the cave of Thawr. In that cave was when the Quran mentions "He [the Prophet ﷺ ] said to his friend [Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu] 'grieve not for verily Allah is with us' [9:40] He also said, "What do you think of two when Allah is the third" Bukhari. Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu said "O Prophet of Allah, I am not sad, but I am in pain. A snake is biting my foot and I am worried that it might bite you. I am crying because my heart is burning for you and for your safety." The Prophet ﷺ was so pleased with his beloved companion that he hugged Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu, put his hand on his heart and poured the knowledge that Allah had given him into the heart of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq radiAllahu anhu . Hence the tradition that mentions "Whatever Allah poured into my heart, I poured into the heart of Abu Bakr." Thereafter, a significant event was to happen in that cave. The Prophet ﷺ assured Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu "The light of the root of the spiritual tree which is going to spread over all humanity, the Light coming directly from the divine presence, will appear. Allah has ordered me to transmit it to you and to all your 'lineage' (Naqshbandi mureeds)." Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu was then ordered to call all the masters of the Golden Chain [the Inheritors/GrandShaykhs from that time to Al-Mahdi alayhi salam]. All were called through their spirits from the world of souls. Then he was ordered to call 7,007 Naqshbandi Saints. Then the Prophet ﷺ called the 124,000 prophets. Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu then ordered the GrandShaykhs to call upon their followers to also appear spiritually. All the Shaykhs were to take the hands of their followers to receive initiation. Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu placed his hand above them all. Prophet ﷺ placed his hand over, followed by Allah (the Hand of Power) over them all. Allah himself put His Recitation on the tongues of everyone present. From the voice of power, they followed, "Allah Hu Allah Hu Allah Hu Haqq" "Allah Hu Allah Hu Allah Hu Haqq" "Allah Hu Allah Hu Allah Hu Haqq" This dhikr is known as Khatmi Khwajagan, recitation of the masters. Anyone who accepts initiation or attends this dhikr, must know that he/she was sprirtually present in that cave at that blessed time with the Prophet ﷺ and received the secrets. These secrets have been transmitted from the Shaykhs of the Golden Chain, through Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu . He was overjoyed and astounded with these occurrences in the cave. This was the foundations of the spiritual Naqshbandi way. The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu then resumed their journey safely to Madinah.
