Wir haben uns heute mal die Webseiten der Berliner Hostels angeguckt und uns auf die drei besten geeinigt. Vom Design her liegt baxpax.de klar vorn, doch vom Content her betrachtet, können sich viele etwas von Circus-berlin.de abgucken. Noch ein Lichtblick... eine richtig schlechte Seite haben wir nur einmal gefunden.

Wie beginnt man einen solchen Test? Wir haben uns per Suchmaschine angenähert und uns Stück für Stück die Links angeguckt. Dabei zeigt sich, dass einige Seite sehr gut gebaut sind, aber über echt wenig Content verfügen (Bsp.: Pegasus Hostel). Andere haben einen guten Ansatz, platzieren aber den Content ein wenig chaotisch. Das City Hostel Berlin kann dort als Beispiel genannt werden. Dort verbirgt sich an der prominentesten Stelle ein Link zu den die BVG-Verkehrsnachrichten. Den Buchungsbutton muss man im Menü suchen, wobei es auch das Menü nicht wirklich leicht hat in der oberen rechten Ecke. Ein wenig Angst gemacht, hat uns die Seite vom Odyssee Hostel. Sie kommt sehr dunkel daher und hat kaum Bilder, die einladen. Wir waren uns einig, dass wir (so schön das Hostel auch ist!) auf Grund dieser Webseite kein Bett reservieren würden. Wer nochmal einen Blick in das Webdesign der frühen neunziger Jahre werfen will, der sollte mal die Seite vom David's, John's und Fabian's Cozy little backpacker wagen. Es erinnerte einige von uns an die Augenschmerzen, die man beim Betrachten vieler Myspace-Seiten bekam. Sicher muss man auch das Michelberger erwähnen. Die Jungs und Mädels wissen schon, was Style ist, aber diese Webseite ist dann doch ein wenig over the top. Um Betten zu verkaufen und Suchmaschinen anzulocken, ist sie vollkommen ungeeignet. Positiv sehen wir, dass es eine mobile Seite gibt, auch wenn man dort leider nicht buchen kann. Bei den anderen Seiten gab es hier und da mal was zu bemängeln, aber im Großen und Ganzen, ging das schon. Auffallend ist, dass viele Seiten ein gutes Grundgerüst haben, dass dann aber leider durch den "Anbau" von Social-Media-Buttons und anderem Schnickschnack ganz schön ins schwanken gerät. Andere müssten einfach mal ihr Design ein wenig entstauben.

Kommen wir nun zu den Platzierungen:

3. Three Little Pigs  Man kann sich über das Rosa sicher streiten (das haben wir auch!), aber die Seite ist solide gebaut und erfüllt ihren Zweck. Wir hätte uns eher für das Menü auf der Linken Seite ausgesprochen, aber trotzdem verdienter Platz drei.

2. baxpax  Die Startseite steht gleich vor einer großen Aufgabe: die Gäste auf eins der drei Häuser zu lotsen. Das ist gut umgesetzt. Danach hat die Seite ein klares Ziel und das ist, den Gast ohne Schnörkel zu den Infos, die er braucht, und dann direkt zur Booking-Engine zu bringen. Diese ist mit Abstand die schönste Umsetzung des sonst sehr spröden ASSD-Plugins, die wir bisher gehen haben. Leider begeistert die Seite nicht mit besonders viele Content und es fehlt ganz klar eine mobile Seite.  Vom Design her, ist es ganz klar unser Sieger. Die verschiedenen Farben für die drei Häuser bringen eine klare Trennung und erschließen sich intuitiv. Platzierungs-technisch gibt es nichts zu beanstanden und technisch schon gar nicht.

1.Circus Berlin  Genau wie beim baxpax muss sich der Gast auf der Startseite erstmal entscheiden. Hat er das getan, eröffnet sich ihm eine Weite Informationswelt. Das macht die Seite zu einer Mischung aus Hostelseite, Blog und Berlinlexikon. Einige von euch werden sich ein wenig erschlagen fühlen. Die sollten dann doch die mobile Seite ausprobieren. Suchmaschinen lieben Content und davon ist mehr als genug da, aber gerade noch in der Menge, dass sich der Gast nicht erschlagen fühlt.

Wir haben beschlossen, dies mindestens einmal im Jahr zu machen.. also liebe Hostels, strengt Euch an, dann seid ihr nächstes Mal vielleicht dabei.

What a madness about the Pope's visit in Berlin. Half o the city is blocked because he's driving arround the city like razy to meet dozents of people. The rest of the roads are blocked because of demonstrations: Some for and some agains hin.

The craziest thing is this huge poster on the "Bild"-Zeitung building:

Berlin's dancehall kings "Seeed" are back. After the frontman Peter Fox has made a very succesful solo album he's returned to his band called Seeed!

The have already released their first single "molotov" and made some remixes. Here is the new one, a wunderful one.

SEEED - Wonderful world:

Treptower Park:

Treptower Park is a must-see in Berlin. Located right along the Spree River, the park is not only beautiful but large enough to spend hours walking around and exploring. It is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon in Berlin. There is a charming Biergarten where you can bet you will always see older Germans dancing to “Schlager” (old German pop songs) and several restaurants located right on the water, a few even situated on boats. Paddle boats are available to rent and spend a few hours lazily paddling down the Spree while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Treptower Park. The park is also home to the DDR-era “Spreepark”, an old amusement park that was built in the 1960s but was never dismantled after it closed. Follow the giant ferris wheel that can be seen in the distance as you walk around the park and after about 20 minutes you will reach the area where the abandoned park still stands behind a fence. Beyond the fence you can catch a glimpse of the old rides- a rollercoaster track and a log ride, among other eerie remnants of the park. Also located in the park is the Soviet War Memorial to the fallen Soviet soldiers of WWII. The memorial is massive and magnificently well done. (SBahnhof Treptower Park, Ringbahn)

Tempelhof Airport:

Since being shut down in 2008, Tempelhof Airport has been used as a public park. All of the original airport buildings are still standing and the runways are now full of bike riders, runners, kite flyers, and rollerbladers. There are designated areas for grilling and even an area where you can let your dog run loose. An old airplane used during the Berlin Airlift still stands at Tempelhof. Not too far away from Tempelhof at Platz der Lüftbrücke there is also a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the Berlin Airlift. (SBahnhof Tempelhof, Ringbahn and U6)

Walking Tour / Scooter Tour / Bike Tour

A great way to see Berlin and enjoy a beautiful day is a scooter or bike tour. There is so much to see in Berlin that can be difficult when sitting on a bus full of tourists, so get your own overview of Berlin this way and really see everything the city has to offer. If you need a bike, you can get them at our receptions. For scooter rental check out the website of our good friends from Berlin Scooter. If you feel like walking around Berlin, there are free walking tours daily that will take you to all of the must see sights in Berlin. There are even some themed tours that can take you to specific sights if you have a preference for that. There is a pick up @baxpax Mitte and @baxpax downtown every morning. Mustafa’s

After you have worked up an appetite on your scooter or bike tour you have to experience Mustafa’s. Döner is a staple streetfood of Berlin and this unassuming stand in Kreuzberg is THE place to experience your first taste of a Döner Kebab. You can rest assured you will not taste a Döner like Mustafa’s anywhere else in Berlin. You may have to wait in line a bit at peak times during the day, but the end result is well worth it. The Döner’s at Mustafa’s are seasoned perfectly and loaded with everything from sweet potatoes to crumbling feta cheese. (There is also a vegetarian option for those who don’t want the Döner meat). Tip: If you don’t want to wait in the line at Mustafa’s Mehringdamm location, try their newly opened stand in Wedding (Leopoldplatz), the line is sure to be shorter, but the Döner just as delicious. Victoria Park Kreuzberg

The Kreuzberg (Berg = Mountain) near Mehringdamm is a rare sight in mostly flat Berlin. Climb to the top for a great view over Berlin and cool your feet in the nice little waterfall. The surrounding park is also a nice place to hang out and at night the Berg is a regular hangout for those wanting to enjoy a beer and some music courtesy of other park-goers. Buy your beer at a local "Spätverkauf" or in one of the supermarkets (Mehringdamm U6 or Platz der Lüftbrücke U6)

Karl-Marx Allee / East side Gallery

A walk down Karl-Marx Allee will give you a good idea what most of the architecture of the East looked like. This grand Allee was originally named Stalinallee and is lined with Stalinist era apartment blocs. A short walk from Karl-Marx Allee is the East Side Gallery, the longest remaining stretch of the wall which has been painted by artists. Next to th the Eastside Gallery you can find the YAAM (young african art market). There you can get delicious afro-caribian food and chilled drinks while sitting on a beach and relax.
