Happy Bat Week!

Your bat is the Long-Tongued Nectar Bat (Macroglossus minimus)!

Egyptian fruit bat | Rousettus aegyptiacus

Also known as the Egyptian rousette, this bat primarily resides in Africa, though can be found in some surrounding countries. They eat a selection of fruits and are quite important for both seed dispersal and pollination!

Have you ever heard of the phrase "blind as a bat"? The truth is, a lot of bats are just about as blind as we humans are. Fruit bats tend to see in the dark better than their insectivorous relatives, which is helpful to identify which fruits are good to eat and which aren't! Sense of smell takes a big role in this as well.

bats are wonderful, intelligent and social creatures which should be treated with dignity and respect. they are not pests, monsters, or your pets to pick up! please take some time this week to familiarise yourself with bats, bats in your area, and what you can do to help them.

Happy Halloween! And happy final day of Bat Week as well. I was told recently about Bat Week and it reminded me how I drew a bat form of @munofsilver almost a full decade ago now, and I saw that art and went "Okay this needs an update", so here it is ^w^ She's a flying fox, specifically with the colors of a golden-crowned flying fox. Was fun going through the design process with Dragon Bud and I'm pretty happy with the end result. Drawn and inked on paper with Zebra Brush pens(first time using them for a full drawing), colored in Clip Studio Paint.
