Hey there! So today my cockatiel decided to fly around my room a little bit and when she finally landed, I heard this weird little clicking noise coming from her when she breathed. It only happened after she did exercise and it starts for a bit and then stops for a bit. I know this might be a sign of respiratory infection but its not constant. It happens on and off. Should I go see the vet for this? Im quite concerned. Thank you!
Clicking just after a lot of exercise is normal to a degree, it just tends to mean that the bird is unfit. Doing basic flight exercises, recall, working on ascending and descending are easy ways to develop muscle and strengthen their lungs so that stops happening. If they’re panting after a flight they’ve got too far so be sure to watch for that and only work at appropriate distances so they can develop strength without overdoing it and getting hurt. If this is happening elsewhere, after super basic exercise like climbing or small bits of flapping or during rest then it would be more worrisome. A vet visit certainly never hurts though!
