Okay, okay, it's true: the creators of this blog spend entirely too much time at the Middlesex Lounge. Hell, it's only a 10-minute walk from our front door and is in many ways the closest thing we have to a "local bar" (sorry Lord Hobo, Bukowski's etc). But really, we'd be regular attendees even if we actually had to put in some effort to get there.
Case in point: tomorrow night's edition of Boston's best weekly dance night, Make it New. Following up on a run of great performances all autumn long (including sets by the likes of Appleblim, Max Cooper, George Fitzgerald, Jackmaster, Jerome LOL and Axel Bartsch) comes Mancunian bass music maestro ILLUM SPHERE! It's been several years since the dude last made his way through the area, and based on all reports his deep, slightly wonky but effortlessly danceable style is not something to be missed.
Opening will be two of MiN's best and brightest rising stars, John Barera and Coralcola. Barera is one-half of B-Tracks and has been receiving well-deserved critical praise both internationally and locally of late for his expansive and rootsy take on house and techno. Coralcola is, to be completely honest, my favorite DJ/electronic music producer in New England and one of my very favorite human beings as well. All critical distance is just thrown out the window when I'm talking up the man otherwise known as Mikey Lee, so just trust me when I say that you need to check him out.
The event is (as usual when it isn't free) only $5 if you get there before eleven, so be timely. Save the extra couple bucks for a tasty cocktail. Tip your bartender, peep the opening acts, make a night out of it and, as always, make it new!
