A Brilliant Song
This song may initially seem like another catchy Top - 40 destined to be forgotten in less than two years but it is instead brilliant. I agree that it is in fact catchy however who doesn’t like a catchy song to begin with, something to hook you in and sing along with until the meaning of the words dawn on you. This is where this song stands out. For those interested in the backstory, Jack Antonoff, the lead singer of Bleachers lost his sister at the age of 18 and then a cousin a year later and proceeded to go on a self-discovery that turned into self-destruction. His conversation with his mom when he felt that he finally had lost his mind on acid is what set his mind on the right course. The repeated “I wanna get better, better, better” is more than just lyrics, it is an anthem, a mantra to help cope and prove the struggle there is in trying to find the light again. And really, for those who have had bad days, standing on an interstate screaming at yourself is all that is really left to do. But as the song shows, there is still time to pick yourself up and just get better, better, better.
