Bashir's righteous fury at Admiral Ross in "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" makes me REALLY want to know how he would react if he found out what happened in "In the Pale Moonlight."
And his scornful response to Sloan at the end: "Should I feel sorry for you? Should I be weeping over the burden you're forced to carry in order to protect the rest of us?" Would he say the same thing to Garak? Of course, Garak would never hint that he *wants* anyone to feel sorry for him... but his line is basically the same as Sloan: I do what I do so that others don't have to. Bashir has been on the receiving end of Sloan's cruelty and manipulation, not so much of Garak's; in Garak, he's seen the physical and psychological toll that kind of work takes. Is he just not connecting the dots? Does he see it as different when the dirty work is being done on behalf of the Federation, which is supposed to be above that kind of thing, as opposed to the Cardassian Union, which is completely fine with it?
I want to fic about this at some point.
