They did Pearce dirty. Luring him away from a good position with bribery, offers of increased pay and benefits just so they can have someone that can hit on the team - which they didn't really need since TK, Owen, and Paul could all hit well, or maybe have your team actually practice before challenging the leading team...which also isn't a thing in baseball (needless to say I'm annoyed about this part too...and wanted cute practice scenes). And then practically laughing him out of their (Captains) office for him not wanting to join in the brawl on behalf of the 126.
IMO, he owed them nothing. And if he recorded that last conversation...they could be in big trouble with the union.
