What she says: I'm fine.
What she means: Despite Burial at Seas's insistence that belongs in the same story as the other BioShock games, it only displays disinterest and apathy to the previous entries in the franchise. Up to the point the DLC can't even commit to a faithful recreation of the original iconic city of Rapture--from the characterization of the big name characters that filled the city to even the location itself. Burial at Sea doesn't even care to get the architecture style of Rapture right. Where BioShock is 20's Art Deco Burial at Sea uses Streamline Moderne. While both styles are umbrella under the general term of "Art Deco" they could not be more different--much how Burial at Sea is umbrella under the "BioShock" name while being nothing like the other BioShock games.
i love the bioshock trilogy
I'm curious, tell me why burial of sea sucks? Im not an infinite fan at all, I'm just curious. I can view it as Ken smashing his toys together.
You basically got it all on your own, BaS is ken smashing his toys together until they break. He got mad about BioShock 2 since he wasn't apart of it, and compared it to "someone dating your ex" and then decided he didn't want anyone messing with his stuff again, so he took his favorite characters from infinite, made the lore of the entire franchise revolve around them, and then killed them off so no one could use his favorites ever again.
Now the events of BioShock 1 are not the natural escalation of Rapture, it all happened because Elizabeth had a master plan she set into motion. It's annoying retconning that forces characters into a story they weren't a part of to answer questions no one was asking. It goes out of its way to contradict lore (esp from BioShock 2) to make a mess so it would be harder for there to be more games set in Rapture. It's a mean spirited and crude addition to the franchise that takes the fun out of the other games.
I'm sure I've voiced this at one point or another b/c my salt is eternal, but BaS is just trying to score fan service points of "here's rapture when its shiny" "here's cohen" "look we got a ryan cameo" to distract you from it being a mess, and it forgets that a lot of what worked in BS1 and BS2 was not showing you the heydays of Rapture. You're not supposed to see it when its new, Rapture is an ideal you can only dream of not a reality you can live in. The city has more power being a ghost, you can never match what someone imagines in their head.
me every time I think about they took Suchong's major contribution to the plot and gave it to a white man in a dimension 50 some years earlier, who called him slurs every chance he got.

I am 100% on board with the logic that BaS is some weird alt timeline for retconning it, but when discussing the canon of the games unfortunately, they explicitly stated that it is the exact same Elizabeth and Rapture from the other games--as they introduce this "prime" notion.
What do you mean PRIME Ken. when was that something that was established in the games???? Even in Infinite there was no mention of prime dimensions or people. The inclusion of it here feels so intentional for Ken's plan to tie canon in a knot.
does anyone remember the "last time on bioshock" video they had to slap on BaS part 2 because they realized the fans who never played BS1 would have NO CLUE what was going on in this DLC without the first game. and how that video was just Ryan and Fontaine yelling and did not at all clear anything up. There is no one someone who didn't play the first game watched that video and thought "oh I completely understand now."
"why do you dislike infinite so much" well this is kind of it. Because canon, the creator, and the devs shove it and its characters down my throat like they're the best thing since sliced bread. If Infinite had been its own thing it'd be whatever, it's story and character types weren't for me, but at least if BaS has been some separate DLC exploring Elizabeth's character I could just ignore it and move on.
But Ken couldn't HANDLE people not loving his favorite characters, and he forced infinite into Rapture in awkward ways that breaks everything. Like its some gottem on Ken's part "oh you don't like Columbia? well Rapture got big daddy tech from Columbia, and since you like big daddies you DO like Columbia then." "oh you don't like Elizabeth? Well you like the plot of BS1, and Elizabeth set all of that in motion so you actually DO like her."
And now on the celebration of the first game?? We get shoved more infinite content?? Elizabeth (and Booker) are the named characters with the most posts. Tenenbaum got one post and Ryan got one, (2 i guess if you count a text post saying when Ryan decided to found Rapture). There was hardly any celebration of the first game's cast on their day! If it had been a balanced franchise celebration that'd be fine! But it wasn't, the only BS2 rep was someone posting stolen art of delta that had been put through a filter.
Feels Like I can't enjoy the game I care about without having to talk about Infinite and that sucks! I want to enjoy the first game! Not talk about Ken's favorite OCs!!!
