Barynya

Barynya is a fast Russian folk dance and music. The word barynya (Russian: Барыня, landlady) was used by simple folk as a form of addressing to a woman of higher class, a feminine form for the word "barin", landlord.

I recorded this event and one of the performances was by the group Barynya. It was my first time seeing Russian folk music live. And I loved it! As their website states, the group “presents Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Jewish and Gypsy Roma traditional dancing, music, songs, and virtuoso performances on instruments including the balalaika, garmoshka (Russian folk button accordion) and balalaika contrabass.” 

My mom went up north!!!!!!!!  I was this close to strangling her, she didn't leave a moment too soon (if anything, she left a few days too late).  Now I have a whole week to live life without someone criticizing my every breath!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, it was 200 degrees out today, plus the brush fire that started about 20 miles away this afternoon (tomorrow was supposed to be pushing 100 degrees already, so with the the fire it might be 200 tomorrow too), so I spent the day indoors :/.  On the bright side, I'm going on a diet starting tomorrow :D.  Technically it should've started yesterday (which it did, but was a false start), but I ran out of vegetables this morning and have been subsisting on pasta.  I might either go grocery shopping tomorrow (despite the heat TT_TT) or eat broccoli for two days.  I should've made a meal plan before my mom left so I wouldn't be in the situation I'm in right now :/.

I wanted to go watch this Russian song and dance troupe at the Music Center tomorrow, but it's an outdoor mini amphitheater in the middle of the day D: I am so not going to sit through that.  I feel bad for the performers, they really got the short end of the stick.  Anyway, I still need to drop by the Music Center box office to buy tickets for the Alice in Wonderland ballet next month :D :D :D so excited for that :D :D :D.  I was also thinking maybe I can go shopping, but it's so hot and half the stores are outdoors, I really don't want to be trying on clothes when I'm all hot and sticky :/.

It's definitely too hot to go to the gym; I did a short yoga routine from YouTube, and I learned something!  Sometimes in class the instructor says to roll forward into upward facing dog, but I never understood what that meant, but I figured it out today :D cuz the instructor in the video said to roll forward every time we did an up dog and it clicked for me about three up dogs in lol.  I love yoga :)

I really wanted to go to the beach today, but no one was free (or they just didn't want to go :/).  I'd go tomorrow but I have all that stuff to do, and I should go grocery shopping because as much as I like broccoli I really don't want to be eating broccoli for two days straight.

I didn't have a plan for my diet, just that I was going to eat more vegetables and only eat what I wanted, when I wanted, and how much I wanted, instead of having to finish the food my mom cooked/bought.  The general idea was to eat as many vegetables as I can and minimize the other stuff like carbs and protein.  I thought about buying some high fiber stuff like flaxseed or something, but I don't really need extra fiber, the veggies should take care of that.  Basically, the idea is to go on a sort of cleanse, to cleanse my soul~

You know what the sad thing is?  Instead of planning all these crazy outings (though I entertained thoughts of going to a club and the beach and to an amusement park), I'm actually starting to plan a workout schedule lol.  It might be a good time to try a weeklong yoga something (retreat? program?).  I might try to go running (track, cuz I'm back to hating the treadmill - actually, you can say I was justified in my original bias) or swimming, do all these exercises I usually don't do.
