We didn’t really stop for food while we were in Viejo San Juan, but we did make one stop at Barrachina, which claims to have invented the piña colada. They were closing at 5 that day, and we went a little after 4:30 with the hope that we could get a drink, and they had a pretty great system in place. The kitchen was closed for the day, but they had a bar open in a courtyard expressly for to-go drinks, and they let us in a few at a time to get us drinks and get us all out. 

We got our drinks with no issue, but there were groups of tourists who saw the closed doors and were…not behaving well as a result. We were instructed to go out through the adjacent jewelry store as the main doors were closed, but there were some mainlanders who were not having it. I tried to explain that they closed at 5 that day, but at least one younger boomer lady opened the door and marched right in, claiming the fact that she wasn’t Puerto Rican as an excuse for her bad behavior.
