edie x barnaby 2019 -> 2022
rosey valentines yes this is a repost, yes this is from last year. it was originally on my old blog, but as we know, my old blog was thrown into the void, so now this pic of happy and loving edie & barnaby can live on my hp oc blog forever~ happy valentines
barnaby, as mr ministry employed animal caretaker, often had to get up early for work so often goes to bed early. edie on the other hand as a full time researcher part time contractor has flexible hours and thus has more night owl tendencies, and will often work late into the night and wake late in the morning.
it's not unusual for edie to simply forget to go to bed, having gotten engrossed in work. and it's not unusual for barnaby to get up in the middle of the night, either for water or to go to the bathroom. on nights when both these happen, barnaby will simply pick her up mid-work and cart her off to bed.
she can protest all she liked, but once barnaby has got her in his arms it's over for her. it's time for cuddles and time for sleep, and edie really can't complain considering how safe she feels with him.
"you smile a lot now." edie blinks blearily, looking up at barnaby. he's bathed in golden morning light, playing with a loose strand of her long hair. she smiles at him, "you make me smile a lot" barnaby chuckles. edie can feel rumbling in his chest, beneath her hand. barnaby leans over to kiss her head. "you sound a lot happier now, too," barnaby murmurs in her hair. her stray hair strands no doubt catching on his stubble. "that makes me happy." "i'm happy too." she snuggles into him, legs twined under the sheets. the golden morning sun is bright and inviting. for the first time in a long, long time, edie is content.

Despite Edie's reminder, Barnaby still forgot his scarf when setting of for Hogsmeade earlier that day. Only to be met with an early December squall as they're heading back. Oh well, he'll just borrow her scarf next time. He already has her hat, something he never plans on giving back. Might as well start a collection.

From the time Barnaby asked Edie to the Celestial Ball, it two the two almost a year and a half to finally get together. Officially, they began dating in late into their fifth year. It took Edie nearly a whole year to recognize that yes, she is in fact crushing on her fellow Slytherin. And for that whole year, Rowan relentlessly teased her bestfriend friend over that unfortunate fact. Truthfully, Edie was doing her best to avoid these feelings. The whole idea of a relationship - having someone so close to her and being so emotionally vulnerable - it scares Edie. It's everything her instincts tell her to flee from. But she trusts Barnaby. So maybe it won't be all too bad.
