The height of Barbara Ann Scott’s career was during a time where nations fought and blood was shed, World War II. Barbara Ann Scott provided Canada with inspiration and newfound strength to carry on during the struggles of war. Prime Minister Mackenzie King also recognized her achievements and the impacts it had on the nation. The 19-year-old’s gold medal in the 1948 St. Moritz Olympics upheaved the country and lifted it from it’s post war despairs. When she won Canada’s first ever gold medal in single figuration, two forwards of the Ottawa RCAF Flyers hockey team lifted Scott on their shoulders, the moment of bliss and victory was captured on camera and shared around the globe.
