Okay so… I haven’t been posting for quite a while, but as you may be able to tell, I have had a very drastic art style change! I’m honestly really happy with this new style, I think side views are a lot easier now.
(Also, went to NYC to see the last performance of BJTM, might make a post about it later but it was amazing. If you saw a BJ cosplayer with a sandworm puppet on their arm, it was me!)
( @the-nerdy-libra : hi, here's a stephcass fic again!)
Stephcass week : Day 3 : Cinema :@stephcassweek
Flufftober : Day 29 : Prompt : Library AU
or : Civilian AU! in which Steph comes get Cass for them to go on their date, basically
------------------------------------------------
Her boss lets her off early today: Steph's never been more glad for her benevolence. She doesn't know why Leslie gave her up that easily, but she's definitely not about to complain.
(She kept mentionning how hyped she was for her date all day-long, that's probably why.)
She's really grateful, really.
She got here way too in advance.
Cass' probably in the back room right now, organizing the latest arrival of books they got.
Steph's.. not allowed there. Employees only.
She would have gone anyway, if it didn't imply slightly breaking in, and if Barbara wasn't currently on shift as well. Her threatening stare is no joke.
And also, Steph has at least three comic books sitting in her room that she hasn't read yet : and she doesn't want Barbara to 'suddenly' remembers she's running late on returning them, thank you very much.
She stays sitting there, very reasonably, on one of the rare bean bag of the library.
It's her favourite because it's the most comfortable one : it's also one that's placed near the children-era, so her distractions aren't the most distracting ever.
She's read all of Roald Dahl's books already, but she's flipping through an illustrated book of Matilda anyway, because why not. It's either that or Peppa Pig.
It's 15 minutes left until closing-time. She misses Cass very much.
She doesn't know if she's just impatient, but children books aren't hitting as much as they used to anymore. Like, at all. She's not feeling distracted currently.
Cass is gazing longingly at the door again. She realizes that only because Barbara pushes it open to get in.
She snaps her gaze back to the transparent plastic in her hands. She is working. Totally working. And being efficient at it. She only has five more books to cover.
Barbara comes closer to the table. She uses her foot to push the chair away. Make some space for her and her wheelchair.
"You're supposed to sit on that, you know", Barbara notes. "Not the table."
"Uh uh", she answers, focused on nothing else than wrapping the book in her hands.
"Are you going to be done soon?", Barbara says, grabbing one of the books.
".. no. It's going to take me at least 10 minutes." And then they'll have to do a tour of the library to usher people out before it close. Then they'll need to make sure nobody stayed and all the books are more or less where they need to be. And then, finally. Steph and date time. She enjoys doing all those things and she likes her job but. She really can't wait, simultaneously. She doesn't usually mind being on cataloguing duty. But just this once she would have loved being on people duty.
Barbara sighs. "You can go."
Cass's head snap up. "We're switching?"
"No. I meant 'go early'. I can see you've been itching to join Steph, it's not really subtle. "
"Really?", she asks for confirmation. (Even if she's already jumped down from the table.)
"Yes. Shoo.", her friend-slash-mentor tells her with a discarding hand gesture. "I'll take care of closing time on my own, there's not that many people. Come on, go join her."
"thanks", Cass answers, already halfway out of the door.
Cass practically leaped onto Steph as soon as she spotted her.
It practically gave Steph a heart attack, but it's also a sign Cass hated waiting to see her as much as she hated hating to see Cass, so she very much forgives.
Luckily Steph hasn't caught up to her girlfriend's martial art skill levels yet, so none of them ended up on the ground.
They're smushed very deep into the bean bag, though.
Steph gets out of both it and the hug: She helps Cass get out with a smirk that definitely couldn't be kept off of her face, even if she tried.
"Wow, are you that hyped to go see people being assassinated on screen?", she asks.
Cass flicks her in the head.
"Hyped for you, not Agatha Christie", she deadpans with way too much honesty. She'll be the death of Steph one day, she thinks. "Are we leaving right away?"
"Yep, absolutely, you got to get off early as well, it's a sign from the universe.", Steph puts down her Peppa pig book.
It's not that late yet, it's only around 7PM, and yet there's very exactly three movies playing in the cinema theatre currently. One of which is.. definitely not an option. No way they're going to watch three hours of a stone island documentary.
"We're not watching the documentary, right."
"Gone girl?", Cass offers instead.
Steph winces. "Tim spoiled it all to me" The plot twist, Amy's psychology, all of it. "And you'd guess it before it's revealed".
"I would have guessed A haunting in Venice's murderer, I think", Cass shrugs.
She would. Very likely.
"True. But I feel like Gone girl is going to remind me of work somehow"
"Well.. the Peppa Pig Movie then ?"
"So much for having a date be romantic", she bemoans.
"Daddy Pig and Mummy Pig are together, maybe it'll be romantic."
Steph sighs. Not at Cass, but at the fact she can tell both of them are going to end up watching a rediffusion of the fucking peppa pig movie. Because the files to the Agatha Christie movie they wanted to watch were corrupted, somehow. Yay. Thank you, life.
They end up watching the Peppa Pig movie. If they ever tell cinephile Tim that, or, god forbid it, fuckass Jason Todd, they're never going to hear the end of it.
It ends up not being the worst date they've ever had, surprisingly.
The cinema's empty as fuck.
They're the only one in it, obviously because literally nobody else wanted to see the Peppa Pig movie at 7:25 PM.
No parents want to watch a honestly pretty cringy movie for a kid that hasn't eaten yet and will only get to after one hour and thirteen minutes of the pig family. Even if it's a really cute kid.
It's a blessing in disguise.
The movie is as cringe as they'd thought it'd be, but Steph keeps cracking up jokes, and Cass starts to as well, and they can laugh as much as they want to since they're the only one in there.
Cass ends up guessing the end of the Peppa Pig movie. And it's middle. They end up trying to guess the lines before the cartoony animals can say them.
Here are a few thing to keep in mind regarding Batgirls getting cancelled. Issue #14 received overwhelming amounts of praise from critics and fans, especially when compared to older issues. Vol. 1 (One Way or Another) was has been reported as the #16 of the bestselling graphic novel OR manga in Nov ‘22. It outsold all but 3 DC volumes, all Marvel volumes (including X-Men Red Vol. 1) and all but 1 volume of manga (Chainsaw Man Vol. 1) that month. DC is stupid, we know this, but one cancellation doesn’t mean that the girls aren’t going to be okay. There also seems to be a long of creative team switch ups, so hopefully Cass & Steph are going to get stories with new artists and writers
