De textielindustrie is van vitaal belang voor de economie van Bangladesh. Maar ze is ook de veroorzaker van grote sociale en milieuproblemen. Het gebruik van water, gas, elektriciteit en chemicaliën is erg hoog in de 1700 ververijen en wasserijen die het land telt. Een nieuw programma van de International Finance Corporation (IFC, onderdeel van de Wereldbank) en Solidaridad in samenwerking met modemerken als H&M, C&A en G-Star gaat hier verandering in brengen. In een nieuw vierjarig programma wordt 11 miljoen dollar geïnvesteerd in schonere textielproductie. De Nederlandse overheid draagt de helft bij, de andere helft komt van de modebedrijven.
