This little Balsam Fir has become a bonsai project. Back when we were still buried in snow I found him growing off the side of a piece of slate with barely any soil covering its roots. It was so young I knew it wouldn't survive the remainder of the winter so I wrapped him up in a sweater, brought him home, and soaked it in warm water for a while before giving him a sunny window and fresh soil. Where it had grown on the side of a rock, it had curved almost to the point that the canopy nearly touched the roots. With time, dowels, and twist-ties, it finally straightened out enough that it'll finally grow properly. It's still a little curved, and down at the roots it has a deep c-shaped curve that I will never be able to correct without harming it, but over the years, it'll adjust to what it needs. I've really grown attached to this little guy. I haven't named it yet lol, but we've got plenty of time. It's got lots of new growth that comes through in spurts. I'm not entirely sure I really want to bonsai it, whereas I think it's neat to do, I lack the patience primarily. I just want to let this little guy thrive so when it inevitably outlives me, it's bark will tell stories of our time together. #hawthorneapothecary #balsamfir #firtree #balsamtree #firtrees #tree #trees #pottedtree #druid #druidry #treeknowledge #plants #plantsofinstagram #bonsai #bonsaitree #greenhouse https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm2FNPUgurv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=9528owrfmzs7
