Hey - incoming exchange student from Sydney here. Wondering what the student life around NEU is like? I'm big into comedy back here, but my research has indicated I may have to search off campus for that kinda culture. Also what kinda stuff do you think would be worth getting for a dorm? And how would I go about getting syllabi for my classes - reckon emailing my lecturers is the go? Cheers! Emma xx
Thereâs about 16,000 students on our campus, but by no means do we have a vibe of a large university. A lot of the time, many students are on co-op, so Iâd say it feels more around the 10,000 student level. Students at NEU are very intelligent, and thatâs definitely something I notice when I talk to people on campus. When you look at student involvement, a lot of students are involved in clubs on campus. Intramural sports is also very popular (http://www.campusrec.neu.edu/intramurals/). We also have the advantage of being in the heart of one of the greatest cities, so a lot of students like to go off campus to explore Boston.
In terms of comedy on campus, NEU has an improv club (https://orgsync.com/27815/chapter) that performs once a month on campus. Other than that, I can not think of any other things off the top of my head. Itâs more likely youâll have to go off campus, but thatâs a fantastic way for you to explore Boston!Â
Another one of the bloggers, Kaitlin, had a great post about what to bring and what to leave home when you come to NEU:Â http://northeastern-kaitlinbeegle.tumblr.com/post/104126255863/do-you-have-any-recommendations-on-what-to-bring.
If youâre eager for the syllabi for your classes, definitely e-mail your professors. They usually upload them to Blackboard through your myNEU portal a couple days prior to class, or it is given in class. But if you donât want to wait go ahead and e-mail! Make sure youâre checking your new NEU Husky e-mail, a lot of information is sent through that.
Hope this helps! :) Welcome to the United States!
