Upon receiving the writing invitation and requirements from Haolin, to be honest, we could feel that he, at least, "tried to make it easier". There isn't anything that relates to "reverse", which fried our brains (referencing Director Haolin's request for Vortex), but there's still stuff that requires excessive studying and experimenting – it's still very much challenging to say the least. Being the opening of the Bridon chapter, this song has to represent, or exhibit, some traits of British music genres. However, Haolin also said that "use of traditional Chinese instruments are required". Of course he had to make it more complicated than it already was. Given the 'huge pool of traditional instruments' to choose from and our shameful lack of understanding of how their characters and ways to use are, we were pretty much experimenting, with a blindfold on, that is.

There are so many awesome British singer/songwriters and bands when you think about it. Folk giant Damien Rice, pop star Ed Sheeran, fabulous singers Adele and Sam Smith, legendary bands Coldplay and Oasis, not to mention musical genius David Bowie. They are all fine representation of musical talents that are both unique and absolutely leading the industry, while still remaining that distinctive Brit sound. It would require an insane amount of thought process for us to be able to pick and draw traits that we needed to make this song from an ocean of music that just seemed too vast to travel through.

We came to the conclusion after a little while, deciding that we'd go at it with more of a modern approach. We planned to give our traditional instruments a counter melody line and fuse it with electronic elements and effects, keeping the core of this song with the standard e-guitar, bass, and drum set. We wanted the structure of this song to have a groove that's straight forward and steady, and express dynamic and emotional changes through different guitar sounds and playing styles. We hoped that even if this song comes across people who are not familiar with Link Click, they would still appreciate it as a good piece of music, vibrate with its emotional delivery, and get drawn to Link Click's story ultimately.

So, what's the story that this song is trying to tell? In our mind (that's right, we don't have any clues of what the plots are like, but that didn't bother us anymore. We submitted the demo 7 months ago and it took that long for it to get released. If we accidentally collated with the plot that the writers had in mind, we will consider it as an enormous honor. Sorry we had to remain silent when we received your questions :(), we wanted this song to be like a monologue from one person to his friend, standing next to each other on the bank of the river Thames under velvet sunset, right across from the London Eye, reminiscing the great adventure they had together. XiaoShi and Lu Guang are two people with gifts that could help the others, but it doesn't make them super human, and it sure doesn't mean that they had any type of responsibilities to do the things they are doing – they do those things because that’s what they choose to do. As witnesses, seeing all the terrible, heart-breaking events that they go through, we believe that everyone would feel for them and care for them because we don’t want people with such bravery and virtue to have a bad ending. Just like what we wrote in the lyrics, “To the point where we got sick of pretending like we are saviours, till we learned to carry on”.

Although it wasn’t part of the requirement, we couldn’t help but buried some easter eggs in the song. You may find the order of the lyrics from the first verse and outro are directly in reverse. We intentionally designed them this way so that they would express something completely different while in response to each other. We wanted to pay tribute to the great idea that is “reverse it and you will find the truth”, and our hard work that resulted in a song that we know to be great and one of a kind. During October 2023 we shot the music video of our song “RED” in London, and had “eyes on” experience of this landmark as a city’s signature element. ‘The eye’ is of course “London Eye”, ‘clock tower’ is of course “Big Ben”. We went to Covent Garden on a rainy day and took a walk on the narrow brick lanes surrounding it, we squeezed through the Underground that was so “sorted” and, when the director yelled out “that’s a wrap!”, took a picture together on the rooftop of that building, standing shoulder to shoulder, under velvet sunset, accompanied by London’s beautiful skyline form Westminster to the Shard. We don’t know if Bridon is XiaoShi and Lu Guang’s first time travelling abroad, but that was the first time that we travelled abroad together as a band. Now that we think about it, 「The Eye」 is also a love letter to every beautiful person and place that we encountered on that journey. It’s nice to think that, maybe, we have come across XiaoShi and Lu Guang without even knowing, divided by universes, but still shared so many memories together.

It is also worth mentioning that we recorded all the guitar tracks when we were touring in Tokyo. We actually went to our friend’s friend’s studio and spent an entire day working together. It was our first time recording and producing abroad. The production team of Link Click didn’t know anything about it until we submitted the tracks and told them. It was our gift to Link Click anyways.

When you are playing this song, remember that it was not meant to break your heart. These are just some honest words that someone who really cares for you wanted to say to you in a whisper, this is about “us” standing together in sunset.
