Pageants
I’ve long wanted to make a show reel of all the footage we have of beauty contests, pageants, “queen” and “princess” contests (Cotton Queen, Watermelon Queen, Peanut Princess, etc.). We have quite a lot of it. Just ran across a new pageant among the WCTV-TV footage we found in cans at our offsite storage. This was a 1960s Miss Bainbridge contest. Have to say, I’m lovin’ this sparkly gown in the center:
And then there’s this scene, which appears to be contestants preparing to go onstage for a song & dance routine or a skit. They’re dressed up as farmers, etc.:
I was going to say the costumes were a bit “corny” but I believe “nutty” is the more accurate term. Yes, that’s a 2-strand necklace made of strung-together peanuts in shell. VERY Georgia.
