barkhad abdi was so cute im so glad he won :)
We just honestly need to give John a Bafta-style statuette with a bronze squinty Simmface weeping beautiful tears and engrave it with the words "most amazing fucking actor ever; signed, your fans". I'm sure he will be getting tons of love backstage; he has already had thousands of supportive tweets which should help. (I'm going to see him this week myself but won't bug him as I know how it can stress him out. But I wish a hand would come down from the sky and hand him that statue.)
Word. He should get an award, in fact, for his trademark squint and gut-wrenching crying ability alone. And this is true; I was wondering what being in a play right now might do for him, and it seems that the support (and distraction) he'll get from that can only be to the good. (Yes, in all seriousness, I don't think I would ever actually attempt to speak to him, even if I do attempt the general stage door thing - which I know one shouldn't really do to him at all, poor man, but the temptation's probably too strong.)
Re: the thoughts in your reblog, by the way? 100% agree that there's no reason to be upset with him for being upset. And when I remarked earlier that I wished he didn't take this so personally, I meant for his sake, because it seriously saddens me that he's constantly getting disappointed by this industry when he deserves recognition and praise. So yeah, it's only human (and justified) for him to be upset or even miffed by these multiple snubs. Most people don't have the superhuman grace and modesty of Tennant. ;D Nor would I expect or want Simm to, really. That's not who he is.
Not the anon, but I have got to say that I agree with everything you said, I felt so bad for him, because he was snubbed again (not to say Dominic didn't deserve the award) and I just hope this doesn't make him take a longer pause or anything. My heart breaks everytime he feels underappreciated because he really is an amazing actor and deserves the recognition :((((
Yes, quite - I'm certainly not saying that Dominic, or the other actors, weren't deserving. But the fact of the matter is that Simm keeps getting snubbed, and he's aware of that, and it's just sad and disappointing all around. Totally agree with you about hoping he doesn't decide to take a longer break from acting (which wouldn't shock me, as he certainly seems to be totally disenchanted with the BAFTAs, at least, and can't be feeling too pleased with the whole industry). It's frustrating enough to know that he's going to be taking one already - which I don't blame him for, of course, since family comes first and it's lovely that he's got those priorities. But he's too good to stay out of work for long.
And he really does deserve the recognition. That's what it comes down to. And I'm being as objective and unbiased as I can when I say this, because he's scarily talented.
