adolescence is fucking hard. growing up is hard, and learning to be an adult and fend for yourself is one of the most difficult and exasperation-inducing experiences people go through in their young life. it’s something you an only really learn via trial by fire, throwing yourself into the flames and hoping it doesn’t burn. these days, university is a popular and natural choice for it. last year, this group of kid-adults all met after being randomly placed in the same dorm for their freshman year. things didn’t necessarily start off magnificently, but one night one of the group bought a bottle of burnetts and invited their floor mates into their room for what most people would hesitate to call a “party”. they drank, they laughed, they cried - and if anything was trial by fire, this was it for their friendship. they all got closer, and in that one night they essentially went from acquaintances to friends. they’ve all been friends ever since, now living scattered throughout the same area in their second-year dorms. they get together all the time, dinner or parties or studying. if you pay attention in class for more than 10 minutes you’re likely to get 500 texts in the group chat. it’s not always perfect but things are bound to get messy and complicated in such close quarters with a group of people who are all simultaneously trying to figure out their present and future and all the conflicting emotions that being young can inspire.
