Broderick and Kaucher win "Badass of the Year" Award
DHREM is proud to congratulate our very own Kerry Broderick, MD (pictured far right) and Kevin Kaucher, PharmD (far left) for winning the Harm Reduction Action Center’s Badass of the Year Award.
Drs. Broderick and Kaucher share this year’s award with another physician from Denver Health for the trio’s work on championing a Naloxone prescription program allowing Denver Health to send home prescriptions with those patients at the highest risk for opioid overdose. And because Colorado has legislation that exempts third parties from liability if they help administer the life-saving reversal agent, we can now educate a patient’s support network on giving Naloxone outside of the hospital.
The comprehensive program includes prescription recommendations and resources for providers as well as educational materials for patients and their supporters. Without a doubt, other hospitals and states are already taking notice of this badass new model to prevent opioid overdose.
