A conversation between me and my mother today:
Mother: Take your dog for a walk
Me: I can’t right now, I’m doing homework.
Mother: My god! Can’t you do anything without talking back?!
Me: I understand that walking her is important, but I have a lot of work that needs to get done. I will do it later this evening if I have time, or tomorrow.
Mother: You think I don’t have work that needs to get done? I have to put away the groceries that I spent ALL DAY yesterday buying! You need to take care of your responsibilities!
Me: I am. Homework needs to be my priority. We have a yard, it’s not absolutely necessary I take her for a walk right now. Also, you literally get paid to take care of (my brother). Part of your work responsibilities is to do things around the house.
Mother: Yeah, that’s because I went to school for nine whole months! And it’s not my job to take care of you! Or your dog!
Me: Except it is though? You are the one who choose to have kids, and you have made it very clear in the past that she is your dog, not mine.Â
Mother: If you don’t take her for a walk right now, I swear I am never helping you with anything ever again! This day will come back to haunt you! Next time you need something I’ll remind you that you refused to do what I said!
Me: I already pretty much take care of myself. I need to be driven to places sometimes, but that is because you refuse to let me get my license, and you won’t let me walk either.
Mother: I’m tired of all your back talk! You’re grounded for the rest of the week! *takes away my school computer, which I needed for homework
