In "Fall for him", where was John Thorpe going when Eleanor ran into him? And did they ever meet again afterwards?
Stuff happened, none of it happy, but let's pretend it didn't and if you want a better reply, do feel free to ask again, either for this fic but something else, or for a differnt one. I promise my very best thorping to make up for this! (Or as good a thorping as I can come up with on the fly ;)
But back to your question at hand.
So the facts are these:
The fic, back when I wrote it, was more or less pure crack. I gave some thought as to where Eleanor was headed, whom she meant to meet, what her thoughts and feelings were, but Thorpe?
Thorpe only had to be present in order to heroically catch her, being very very sexy for about five seconds (and let's face it, likely the only five seconds he has ever been considered sexy). Afterwards, his whole purpose in life was at always, to give everyone and the reader a massive headache (and some whiplash).
Where he came from, where he meant to go... It is a mystery. We can assume he was, like Eleanor, headed towards the Crescent, since he was walking behind her and it is a popular public place. Did he ever end up going there? Who knows. Probably, or maybe not, all we know is that he did not fall in the gutter, did not break his neck and did not collect £200.
Though there was a version of this story, much more recent than the fic, where he absolutely meant to go to the Crescent, popular and generally liked gentleman that he is, but, after so virtuously saving our dear damsel in distress, rather than continue on his way, as he had absolutely meant to, not in the least intimidated by a certain captain, he had to stop and chat with some particualr friend of his who just HAD to see Thorpe's gig because there never was a finer one and as said friend meant to buy one himself, he wanted Thorpe's expertly advice and a look at said fine gig to know what to look for when making his own purchase.
Alas, that version was lost to the world, so perhaps it did happen, perhaps it did not.
Now, /did/ our hero and heroine, who, despite such promising circumstances failed to fall in love on the spot, ever meet again?
Why, this is Bath, there aren't exactly many public places to go to, are there? Unless one makes a point not to come across a certain person, yeah, it can't be helped. So, sadly, Eleanor did see Thorpe again. I mean, it certainly didn't help either, that they share certain acquaintances, an acquaintance, too, who is very dear to Eleanor and I doubt she'd be willing to give Catherine up just to avoid the sight of Thorpe.
He's ugly, but not /that/ ugly ;)
Still, it never went past the seeing bit -- In part because Eleanor had no wish to continue that particular acquaintance (who has?) and in part because she has two older brothers, one with every reason to dislike Thorpe as it is, no further reason needed, and neither of them would have been thrilled about any gentleman accosting their younger sister. And I guess at least one of them can be very impressive when he wants to ;)
For once, Thorpe had the good sense not to push matters.
Of course, this does not change the deep mortification Eleanor would have felt whenever she saw Thorpe. Because even if only for five seconds... There was a time, a very short time, when she considered Thorpe to be attractive, alluring even, or, as one would say nowadays, sexy.
Had she known of their existence, at this point, Eleanor would have cursed her hormones, because let's face it, they /were/ to blame. Bad timing, terrible, terrrible timing :D
