Kevin Ferguson Jr., better known as Baby Slice, will make his bare-knuckle debut at BKFC 80 on September 12 in Hollywood, Florida. The event is set for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, where he’ll face Derek Perez, a battle-tested veteran with eight bare-knuckle bouts to his name.

The symbolism is impossible to ignore. Kimbo Slice’s rise began with bare fists in backyards across Miami, long before the sport had mainstream sanctioning. His son stepping into the official squared circle of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship feels like a full-circle moment—raw, gritty, and true to the roots.

Who Is Baby Slice?

Baby Slice isn’t new to combat sports. Between 2016 and 2019, he competed under the Bellator MMA banner, where he built a professional record of 3-3, with one no-contest. His fights were wild, scrappy, and often showcased the same fearless style that made his father famous.

But his career also had setbacks. His last MMA appearance ended in a TKO loss, and for a while, it looked like his fighting path might have stalled. Outside the cage, he pursued a career in law enforcement, which even forced him to withdraw from an earlier scheduled BKFC matchup against influencer Bryce Hall.

Now, he’s back and committed. His debut against Perez isn’t just another fight—it’s a test of whether Baby Slice can adapt to a sport that strips combat down to its most brutal form.

Tell me about yourself and your brand. My name is Mia Humber and I am the style blogger and fashion designer behind www.babyslice.com. I began Baby Slice as a blog that chronicled my sewing and shoemaking experiments in OOTD posts. I was working in a cafe at the time, didn't know how to sew and had never gone to fashion school.  I walked around NYC looking for cheap tailors and shoe repairs to help me realize my designs and lend expertise. I begged friends to take pictures for me and eventually through Instagram, I began to get requests from stylists and people eager to buy my stuff. I realized then that I could turn Baby Slice into a business. I quit my job and started to build the brand. Right now I'm concentrating on outerwear made from vintage tapestries as well as continuing to explore personal style and fashion design on my blog. It's a lot to handle but it's very fulfilling. My primary goal when I started was to be a fashion blogger but I realized I needed money so I began a brand to finance the blog. Eventually I would like the blog to finance the brand. I like being a designer but would rather inspire people to experiment with their own wardrobes through my DIY projects and thrift store finds. I like design blogging because you can make something totally new on a whim without worrying about finances or sales or any of that minutiae. Design is extremely costly and takes an enormous amount of planning and discipline. It is also so ruled by a lot of nepotism, money and tradition, and makes ethical production tricky. Do you have any concerns?

Of course. I worry that people will get lost when trying to understand that I am both a designer and blogger. I worry that my garage band approach to fashion design will be rejected from the high end markets that I am selling to.  I worry that the high price of making my couture in America will conflict with my blogs message about scavenging for deals in thrift stores. I also worry that I will go into debt and be forced to abandon the project entirely. It's a new business; there's much to worry about. What inspired you to do what you do?

I wanted to fill my closet with the things I couldn’t find or afford. This is why I got into design: to assemble an amazing wardrobe for myself. I love fashion design and fashion blogging but often despise the things they come to stand for. In the case of blogging it's often more about clicks than content and more about looking unobjectionable than interesting. In fashion design it's often more about designing for the masses than designing for a purpose. The wastefulness and exploitation of workers is another abysmal aspect. I still make sacrifices for sales or aesthetic, but I have made a very real effort to make a brand and blog that deserves to exist. What type of lifestyle do you live?

I live in Bushwick with a roommate and our three cats.  The rent is so cheap (for NYC) that I rented out two rooms -- one for sleeping and one for design. My roommate is a DJ and we spend a lot of time going out. Being out and about in NYC has helped my brand grow a lot. I usually wear my own designs and I meet a lot of great photographers and other industry people. I spend most days at coffee shops with my brand manager and good friend Mariam. There are so many jobs associated with starting your own business that no two days look the same. What is your view on ethical business and sustainability ? How do you live cruelty-free/sweatshopfree?
