Frank Iero And The Patience have announced a new EP, Keep The Coffins Coming.
To coincide with the news of their just-announced UK tour, Frank and co. have also unveiled details of a new release, which is due out on September 22 via Hassle ā pre-order it now at this link.
Talking about the record and working with the brilliant Steve Albini,Ā Frank says:Ā
āWhen we were done touring .STOMACHACHES., I talked to my manager, Paul, about what we should do. I had my bucket list and one of the things on there was to work with Steve Albini. Paul asked how long Iād wanted to work with Steve and I was like, āSince I was, like, 11!ā I wanted to make a Steve Albini record! Paul said heād call him and I was like, āYou canāt do that⦠that would be weird. Donāt do it.ā And he was like, āThatās my job!ā He called him, Steve said he could do it and he had three days. Next phone call I made was U-Haul; I fuckinā packed the U-Haul up and drove the band to Chicago. I got to record an EP with my friends and one of my heroes in this, like, giant firehouse building in Chicago. The EP is this missing link between .STOMACHACHES. and Parachutes. Itās everything I wanted it to be. Itās fuckinā awesome!ā
The tracklist looks like this:
1. Iām A Mess 2. BFF 3. No Fun Club 4. You Are My Sunshine
And hereās the Daniel P. Carter-designed artwork, too (above)
Q: ...So, letās talk about this EP thatās coming out, āKeep the Coffins Coming.ā --- Frank: Once the touring for āStomachachesā was over, I had a conversation with my manager, Paul, around January, and he was like āAlright, what do you want to do? Whatās the next thing?ā I really wasnāt sure just yet, so we had this discussion about bucket lists. I was writing a little bit, but I really didnāt know what the next record was going to be yet. It came up that I had always wanted to work with Steve Albini. We called Steve, and he had like three days free, so we packed the cars up, and I drove out to Chicago and recorded this EP. The only songs that I had, as far as new stuff, was āIām A Mess,ā and this demo idea for āVeins.ā āVeinsā never got finished, but we recorded āMess,ā an alternate, full-band version of āBest Friends Forever,ā āNo Fun Clubā and a cover version of āYou Are My Sunshine.ā So, those four songs are the EP. Itās weird, though: I donāt consider that version of āMessā to be a demo - itās still a full version, just different than the LP version. When we went in with Ross, I didnāt know if we needed it, but I love it just as much. I love both versions the same, and I think itās really cool to hear where that song started from, and then where it ended up. Both versions have validity, you know? Thatās why releasing this EP made so much sense, I think ā itās such a bridge between āStomachachesā and āParachutes.ā
