honestly, you despise preening. it's tedious and slow and even painful at times, having to go feather by feather and contorting your arms to reach the ones closer to your back- the base of your wings is the worst, you can barely graze it with your fingers, let alone neaten the feathers! you get into the habit of putting off preening for as long as possible... which just leads to the next session being even worse and more irritating. this along with the inevitable stares you receive whenever you venture outside leads to you despising your wings, good for nothing except the few times you need to fly which is very rarely. it's become so ingrained in your mindset that you're utterly baffled when Ajax, and by proxy Foul Legacy, begin admiring and fawning over your wings the moment you let him see them up close
Legacy's claws gently run through your feathers, the touch so much more soothing than your own when you preen, carefully straightening and rearranging your soft plumage. gradually your stiffened muscles relax, humming quietly when his hands carefully knead against your back. Legacy purrs in satisfaction at your content expression, taking great care to brush through every feather and remove any that are loose. it's much like having careful fingers scratching at your scalp, and you end up quietly drifting off from pure comfort. the next time you wake, Legacy is curled around you and rumbling, your wings neatly folded and softer than they've ever been, a few stray feathers dotting the nest of blankets he's made
