Avengers Mansion Event: Cold War

Super-heroes, until this time, have acted without regard of the human lives around them. After Shield fell, the Avengers became privatized. Though we all can appreicate everything that the Avengers have done for us, there must be regulations. There must be something put in place to stop all of their careless destruction.

The United States Congress once tabled a bill that would require Super-humans to register themselves and their super-hero identities. In the light of the recent accidental attack on New York by mutant Wanda Maximoff and Fandral of Asgard, Congress has decided to reopen the bill.

As of July 15th, 2016, Super-humans now have to register themselves before aiding in any more national or global crises.

Avengers Mansion Event: Age of Ultron

After the Avengers put the world back together, they end up breaking it all over again. This time, it may come at a high cost.

All of the plots are finished and have been sent out!

Home Base, Young Avengers, and the next Winter Squadron thread all start on the 10th.

Avengers, Rescuers, and Secret Warriors threads start on the 11th.

Asgardians thread starts on the 13th.

The first post in the thread must be posted on the start date. If you have problems with that, feel free to pre-write something and queue it. After the first post, it has been set up so that each character will have 3 days to respond. We will still be putting updates in the OOC, so don’t worry about keeping track of the days. (:

If anyone has trouble meeting deadlines, please let us know. We do have a “calendar/schedule”, but if you ever need more time we’ll absolutely work with you. I know October moved fast, and I apologise for not giving more time to begin with.

That being said, this is the last phase of the event. I’m super excited, and I really hope that everyone else is too :D

Here’s a lil teaser of what is currently in the works:

The Avengers get word that Baron Von Strucker has been found in an old abandoned Shield facility in Sokovia. He is in possession of Tesseract-powered weaponry, and in order to have all their bases covered, the Avengers send in every team they have.

November is the culmination of everything we’ve been building up to so far. There are going to be 6-7 event threads going at the same time. Over the next week or so, the mod team is going to be fixing up a coherent timeline to post so you all know what will be happening when. It will be in order of events as they happen. On the 27th, individual thread plots will be sent out - it will only be focusing on what your team is doing.

But this brings me to another important topic to discuss: there are certain characters that are not involved in any of the new teams. It’s totally possible to fit everyone into this plot, but I need to know which of the non-sorted characters are interested in joining these teams.

Here are the current teams:

Avengers: Hank, Scott, Stephen, Vision, Wanda, (Tony)

Young Avengers: Kate, Kamala, Teddy, (Clint)

Winter Squadron: Bucky, Sam, Sharon, Remy, (Steve)

Rescuers: Maria, Jane, Betty, Peggy, Gwen, Pepper

Asgardians: Fandral, Frigga, Clea, (Thor)

Secret Warriors: Nick, Skye, Phil

Tony, Clint, Steve, and Thor can join the their recruited teams. Natasha will be running a small crew to help coordinate the teams from the New Avengers Facility.

If your character is on the above lists, please let me (Ronnie) know by October 20th if you would like to join a plot. I personally have ideas how to work everyone in, but I don’t want to speak for you. Everyone listed on the active list has one or more characters already involved in the plots, so I understand if you don’t want to overwhelm yourself having to watch 2 or 3 large event threads.

I’m really proud of what you all have accomplished so far! A lot of you are super busy with school / work / life in general, and still you have time for roleplaying. I was hesitant at first to try and work on a plot this huge, but I feel like as long as there’s a lot of open communication OOC then we can totally power through this.

As always, if there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Pepper didn’t have any problems with public speaking. She was very apt as a debater, the result of a naturally argumentative personality combined with early training starting in her high school years, cemented by a strong business career.

This, however, wasn’t a debate. She had been warned as much, urged to not say more than what was strictly necessary in order to answer the questions. It was a very lawyer-y advice, she supposed, “don’t compromise yourself,” and objectively, she had to acknowledge the necessity of this sort of attitude. She resented the implication that there was anything she could say that could be used against Maria, but protecting her friend’s interests was too important to her, so she was determined not to let her emotions interfere with her judgment. She’d done some yoga first thing in the morning, then she took Socrates for a quick walk around the block, and refused Tony’s very insistent invitation for a ride, because she didn’t want to allow his usual rapid-fire questions to pull her out of her de-stressed zone.

She was a little out of her de-stressed zone by the time she took the stand, but just a little.

The meeting wasn’t even over yet, and Stark had already put out a summons through the Avengers communication lines.

This is Iron Man, calling all affiliates that are not associated with SHIELD. I need a team to join me in containing terrorist action taking place in DC. Report to the Avengers Tower ASAP, I want us in the air and en route to ground zero in fifteen minutes.

Personally, Tony had no patience for this “fifteen minutes” stuff though. He briefly contemplated mind-flying a few armors to Washington in order to give himself a headstart, but ultimately decided against it because at this point even he had to admit that he’d been overworking his brain lately. He couldn’t risk the catastrophe that could ensue if he lost control of his Extremis capabilities in the middle of battle (and of course he’d worn out his brain just before battle, of fucking course), so instead he sent in the automated Iron Legion to aid in maintaining the perimeter around the SHIELD headquarters in DC.

He also called Pepper.

Stark got quick answers from Strange, Scott, Wanda, Vision, and Janet. As he waited for the team in the underground hangar, JARVIS ran control checks on the Quinjet and his armor of choice. Codename Renaissance, it featured a radical increase in computing power, which enabled tactical autonomy if Tony was incapacitated or killed while wearing it – plus some other cool useful stuff, including but not limited to high-speed hardware, explosive and tear gas pellets stored in his gauntlets, flame-retardant foam, chamaleonware cloaking; the capacitor ring in the back, which regulated the suit’s power and also launched tungsten-carbide rounds at hypersonic speeds; and his resonance generators, which could be used as a powerful sonic weapon or as a nice way to broadcast music.

Steve was just finishing breakfast when he received Bucky’s text: everyone was being brought to the Triskelion for a SHIELD lockdown in light of the news that HYDRA had infiltrated not just SHIELD but numerous branches of the US government. He had to read the text twice before it truly sank in.

Belarus. Zola’s veiled warning. Sofen’s -- no, Pym’s list of suspected double-agents. It was all HYDRA, right in front of them, all around them --

Steve might have vomited if he’d had a weaker stomach. Instead, he tossed his dishes into the sink, ignoring what sounded like the glass shattering, and opened a communications link to Natasha, Clint, Tony, and Thor.

“Avengers, assemble at Stark Tower immediately.”

He kept an eye on his phone as other agents with whom he’d shared his contact information flooded him with information before cellular signal was inevitably cut off; the name "Grant Ward" was getting thrown around quite a bit, as were the phrases“military round-up," “lie detectors,” and "shoot out," but no one seemed to know for sure what was happening. He had the comm to his ear to receive his teammates’ replies, but in the silences between them all he could hear was the pounding in his ears -- his own heart, raging against his rib cage, desperate to take action now, right now, before they dragged Bucky through an interrogation and wasted time arresting all the wrong people --

Cut off the Hydra’s head, and two more will take it’s place.

In the time of the ancient Greeks, it was written that one of Hercules twelve labors was slaying the Hydra. When Steve Rogers killed Johann Schmidt back in the 40′s people thought he had destroyed Hydra. He imagined back then people thought he was just as mighty as the great Hercules, but he only cut off one head. People lived in blissful ignorance, thinking that their reign of terror was over - but in reality, it had only just begun.

Grant Ward stepped into the World Security Council chambers, where the four members were on screen. Alexander Pierce wasn’t anywhere to be seen, and the Secretary of Defense was standing waiting with armed guards.

“Are you Agent Grant Ward? The that called in the terrorist threat?” The General asked, walking forward to meet him.

Earlier that day, Grant called the Secretary of Defense and said he had information about a potential terrorist threat that was ready to strike soon. Getting up to that point wasn’t easy, he waited on the phone for most of the previous day. His connections at Shield only got him so far. Once he got ahold of him, he stated he could only give more information in person at Shield Headquarters, the safest place he knew. Also where he anticipated all of the action being.

“Threat?” Said one of the Council members - Singh, he thought. “What sort of threat would there be here?”

“Ladies and Gentleman, if you would allow me to start, I am Agent Grant Ward. Level 7 Clearance, Shield Special Ops. I called the Secretary of Defense yesterday with information on a terrorist threat that is happening soon inside this very building.”

“You called us here so they can strike? What’s the matter with you!”

“No!” Grant shouted - he certainly underestimated their anger. “No, nothing is happening today. But I can no longer sit around knowing this information without bringing it foward. Something has to be done to stop Hydra.”

The anger in the room subsided, and the Secretary of Defense actually started laughing. “Hydra? Hydra’s been extinct since 1944.”

“Calm yourself, General,” Councilwoman Hawley sternly said. “But Agent Ward, he is right. You would need some extreme evidence to prove Hydra is still a threat.”

Grant nodded towards the councilwoman on screen. He pulled out a flash drive and plugged it into the computer before him, and within seconds dozens of files appeared on screen. Every major project from the beginning of Shield to Project Insight popped up on the screen, as well as a few other recent missions. Buildings, such as the base in Sokovia, the Triskelion, and the Fridge were on the page as well.

“Welcome to Hydra,” Grant said, as he proceeded to spread out the files so the council members could get a better look.

The room went silent.

“Explain yourself, Agent Ward,” the Secretary demanded.

“Gladly,” He smiled. He pulled up the first file, one on Arnim Zola. “May 1945, Operation Paperclip was put in place. Over a thousand German Scientists were recruited by the United States to give any an all information about the Soviet Union and what was left of Nazi Germany. Arnim Zola, Hydra’s head scientist, was one of these scientists. He, and many others, were recruited by Shield to complete various tasks. Zola took it upon himself to create something greater - he thought he had the best scientific mind in the world, and he downloaded his brain into a series of data banks which are all located at the bottom of one of the original Shield bases. From there, he has become the face and brain behind Hydra.”

Grant poked around a few files and he brought up another one, this one an article from the 1980′s. “Zola was not the only member of Hydra to sneak into Shield’s ranks early on. Rumor has it, Peggy Carter was a spy from the moment she joined the SSR. But with her and a few other Hydra members, they managed to use Shield to bend the world to it’s whim. The Cold War? Hydra’s fault. The 80′s recession, cuban missile crisis, and all the problems in Libya and Iran were all started by Hydra. And that’s just the beginning.”

He could feel tension in the room rising and when he turned around he saw shock and fear on the council members faces.

Councilman Rockwell spoke next, “Are you saying that we’re Hydra? All of us? That’s completely ubsurd!”

“Not all of you,” He replied quickly, “Not everyone. I believe there are plenty of people who joined Shield for the morally right reasons.”

Councilman Sighn spoke up again, “I don’t believe any of this. This is all stuff from 30 years ago, how do we know Hydra hasn’t been eradicated from our ranks since then?”

Their doubts were completely expected. He figured they wouldn’t understand without proof. From his pocket, he pulled out a tape recorder and pressed the play button. It was from the conversation he had with Alexander Pierce.

“I like you, Agent Ward. Keep this up, and you’ll find a high place among our ranks when the time comes.”

“Thank you, sir.”

“Hail Hydra.”

“Hail Hydra.”

Shock and anger swept the room, and all five of the leaders began demanding answers all at once.

“Is that Pierce speaking?”

“I can’t believe this!”

“Arrest him, he’s Hydra!”

“Wait!” Grant shouted as he ran backwards from the soldiers. “Yes. I am Hydra. Pierce is Hydra. Every Agent level 8 and above is Hydra. But I have something you need to know about before you go storming in.”

The soldiers backed away so he could slide through back to the screen. He pulled up the file on Project Insight - the real file, on what they were actually doing. He began paraphrasing aloud:

“With the help of Arnim Zola, we have created a targetting system that will predict who among the population is a threat. We built three Helicarriers to carry out the task of taking out all of the threats to create a New World in complete peace. A preliminary list was made up,” He scrolled down the page to a three column list with over a hundred people, “All of the Avengers, government leaders, and several high ranking members of Shield all popped up.”

The room was quiet again, and the Secretary sent a hopeful gaze towards the Council members. He turned back to Grant and asked, “What do you want? Surely you can’t be giving us this information without some kind of agenda.”

Grant’s lips curled into a devilish grin. “I want full immunity. I can give you a complete list of everyone I know who is Hydra outside of the level 8 through 10 agents, everyone else would need interrogating in exchange for immunity, plus all of the collected files I have are all on this harddrive and can be used as evidence. Full, original documents. And please, don’t use my name as the informant.”

“Shield has a couple dozen lie detector rooms in the Science wing. We can use those. We need to pull everyone back to base,” Councilmen Yen added finally.

“I’ll get my men on that. Grant Ward, you’ve got yourself a deal. I just hope you get what’s comin’ to you.”

Within hours, he made his escape from Shield. Everything he wanted to keep with him was assembled in a box and stored away to retrieve later. Grant got a safe distance from the Triskelion and watched as chaos began overtaking the building. Gunshots could be heard from over a mile away, and there were helicopters coming in from all directions and they dropped people down on the building. The military was busy blocking off roads and trying to let everyone know that the entire city was being shut down until further notice. He assumed that there would be heightened security surrounding the white house and the pentagon, and all the other important places. He didn’t actually know what Hydra was hiding within Shield, other than the helicarriers. He wouldn’t put it past them to try and get into the disbanded phase 2 vaults.

Cutting off the heads of a Hydra would only make it grow back stronger. Every single member was currently being brought in for questioning. Strong government leaders were even part of his list, and he had no doubt in his mind they’d be out for his blood. He sat back and relaxed, realising how for the time being he was completely safe. Not to mention, Karla would be so proud he followed through with everything. But the last few months weren’t even about her, or whatever her plans were - Hydra caused him so much pain, and it was finally over.
